AMERICAN ACCENT TRAINING- 15 Words you SHOULD pronounce “WRONG” in American English!

Hi guys! This video is all about words that you have to say WRONG to get them RIGHT in American English.

I know, it’s completely counterintuitive!

But there are a lot of words in American English that are supposed to be pronounced in their reduced form- NOT the same pronunciation that a dictionary will tell you.

This is because of the stress timing of English- if you want to know more about sentence stress in English, I just made a video about it, check it out:

Many of my clients feel that it’s wrong, unclear, inarticulate and “slang” to use to reduced form, but it’s actually NECESSARY for effectively communicating meaning in English!

In this video, we’ll be going over 15 words that are actually not supposed to be said in their FULL STRONG ARTICULATED form MOST of the time when they’re used meaningfully in a sentence. I hope you enjoy:-)

Since you took appearance in Dave's channel, I've been binge-watching your videos starting with the oldest one and I've already learnt a lot stuff, which I hadn't been aware of before. You're doing an incredibly good job, keep it up! Love from Poland!😊😁

Please Victoria, would you mind making a lesson on the right pronunciation of these endings: ary, ory, iry, ery... Also, I'm looking forward to your next lesson on stress. Thank you for the great work!

Would you recommend non-native speakers to always say sennence instead of sentence, or dennist instead of dentist? To me, these words sound very strange without the /t/ sound, though I am now used to the Innernet (the Internet) and cenner (center) and the Enner (Enter) key on the keyboard.

This was very interesting, never realized I was doing these reduced vowels. Curious thing, when I read your examples the inner "voice in my head" does not seem to make the reductions but when I speak them I automatically do. Possible that perhaps speech and reading are not necessarily processed the same way ?

You bedder believe that the title of this video got my attention. I am a Grammar Nazi--and a proud one at that (most of us are, of course). Note that our jurisdiction is not limited to grammar; we also are authorized issue citations for spelling and pronunciation crimes. It is a major offense for someone to deliberately and knowingly encourage people to pronounce words incorrectly. The title of this video derned near sent a chill throughout my WHOLE BODY.

Thanks for an amazing video! Can we also talk about your "short O" vowel? To my ears, you're making all "short Os" like "AW" - e.g. instead of Kahnee for Connie, I hear you say Kawnee. Do you have the cot x caught merger by any chance? Do you pronounce cot and caught with the same vowel sound? I noticed that most English speakers from the East Coast have a very open short o and rounded aw sounds. Where do you fall on the spectrum, in your opinion?

Isn't there another rule for pronouncing "the" depending on what the following word is? I always thought "the" is pronounced ðiy if the following word starts with a vowel sound as in "the elephant" and takes the schwa sound if the following word starts with a consonant as in "the meeting"

Hi Victoria, I noticed you pronounced "t" in "often" (10:45). Should we omit it? Please advise. Thanks, Albert

Technically english is a language just concists in spesk silly and that's it. fortunately it is the most important language so it's so silly than that makes it be so funny to learn compared with other languages as spanish or french.
