As a Pakistani, getting anything below 70% is basically a fail for parents

Hey! Filipino here. The 85% failing grade is only at some private schools and VERY intelligent schools such as the "Science High" set of schools where I study.

Only Percentage doesn't matter
Toughness of the exams matters too

Here in India it's 34% and if you are at 8th grade or under then you won't fail no matter what

Pakistani here, they changed the passing marks from 35% to 60%.

In Pakistan, majority institutions have below 50% as fail

In some private schools and universities, below 60% is fail while many schools and universities operate on below 50%

For Cambridge education here i.e. O and A levels and few other private Board schools, it's below 40% and threshold system

In some government institutions and government board schools, it's below 35%

Majority operate on below 50%

Actually, In Pakistan from class 1 to 8, it depends on each school criteria for passing, for 9-12 you have to be above 33% and for university each follows its own criteria but mostly above 40%

For those wondering about the letters on the map

B - good(needed some help)
S - lowest grade

RAHHHH!!! STEM student from Phili here, I wanna share some of my tips to maintain a 96%-91% average (It worked for me at least).
1. Take a piece of paper/notebook and write EVERY homework, performance tasks, deadlines, EVERYTHING for that day! It will tell you which ones to prioritize so you can pass your activities on time.
2. GET SOME SLEEP. I feel every student needs to hear this, even if your research papers aren't done yet, DO IT TOMORROW. DON'T PLAY VIDEO GAMES, GO STRAIGHT TO BED AND GET SOME REST. Your health is ABSOLUTELY important and most likely, you'll function better when you're not tired.
3. Don't deprive yourself some fun, constantly studying without having time for yourself is NOT healthy. It won't help your grades either. I've lost some important people because of this. Make sure to take care of yourself, and don't be afraid to ask for help.

Lots of schools in Australia use the A-E grading scale, here it is (below 50 percent is a fail)
A = 85 to 100%
B = 70 to 84%
C = 50 to 69%
D = 30 to 49%
E = 0 to 29%

Here in South Africa we use numbers instead of letters

80-99% = 7
70-79% = 6
60-69% = 5
50-59% = 4
40-49% = 3
20-39% = 2
1-19% = 1

As someone who lives in the Philippines, the 85 percent failure is usually (in my experience) for the upper sections/star sections where they put the 'smarter' kids in, if you get below 85, you get transfered to the lower/regular sections or the pilot section. I got into the ''upper'' sections and they expects us to exceed in all of our subjects, which of course causes pressure, it sucks.

It is pretty simple in Finland. Usually we use 4-10 with mere 50% of minimal points. But there are some letters and latin words describing grades in the matriculation exams:
L = Laudatur (top 5%)
E = Eximia cum laude approbatur (15%)
M = Magna cum laude approbatur (20%)
C = Cum laude approbatur (20%)
B = Lubenter approbatur (20%)
A = Approbatur (15%)
I = Improbatur (worst 5%)

As a Pilipino, getting below 85% is only considered fail for privite schools, while in public schools getting 80% below is considered fail
