Want to get better and faster at Hard Surface Modeling in Maya? In this Maya Modeling Tutorial, I will show you how to create a Honey Comb pattern quickly and efficiently. I will then use a variety of deformers to give your pattern a completely different form.

I break down each step so you can easy 3D model any repeatable pattern in Maya.

These principles can be applied to most other 3d Modeling packages such as Blender and 3D Studio Max.

Precision is key to Hard Surface Modeling in Maya and this video will focus on that.

In this Tutorial, I will cover the following Maya Modeling Techniques:

► Creating Repeating Patterns.
► Using the Shrink Deformer
► Using the Bend Deformer
► Editing Pivots.
► Using Vert Snap

This 3d Modeling tutorial is great for Maya Beginners and Advanced users alike.

I like your style of explanation. You focus on the big picture while still telling us exactly what keystrokes you’re using.
I feel like most tutorials are either too specific (like following a recipe) or too general (only introduces the concept) so good job striking that balance 👏

Finally a 3D tutor who’s entertaining and makes it seem more playful than the same ol procedural outdrawn ”drag verti here” bullshit.

cool techniques, learned alot! i want to make the pattern into an object that is more complex than a cylinder :) right now specifically i want to make the number 8, in this same mesh style, but come short of skills. Im thinking something like making the 8 as a curve, then extrude a cylinder onto it and somehow get the mesh onto that, or maybe have the mesh on a long tube, and somehow make that tube bend itself into the shape of curve(but curves fundamentally sux in maya so propably not)

man can you do an indepth video on the best tehniques for adding thickness with Maya for more complex models (by ways of extruding, scale cloning, duplicating faces) since it doesnt have a dedicated tool like Max shell or Blender solidify.

Thank you for the awesome tutorial. Also, what is the next step to paint it in Substance?? you create UVs for this high poly model, or you create low poly and make UV for it? If you use low poly, I am not sure that holes will appear in the Substance.
