It's disgusting how saturated the media is with sports betting ads.

Gambling being legally allowed to throw it people’s faces all day everyday is equivalent my old heroin dealer following me around with a trench coat he keeps opening to offer me dope. I can say no a million times, but I could also get caught on my worst day and it makes saying no that much harder. I have no idea how this is legal.

gambling is such a terrible addiction, my grandfather is getting put into a nursing home instead of getting palliative care at home because my uncle gambled away every cent he made (including my grandfather’s pension). i also work in sports and have been considering a career in sports media, but the endless betting ads on tv and websites and podcasts drive me so up the wall idk if i could ever do it. as much as i know about sports and how often i’ve correctly predicted outcomes, i would never ever get into the cycle of putting money on it

I have a gambling addiction and I have self excluded from about 25 sites, haven’t signed up for any more, but every social media platform every streaming platform, sports event is so polluted with gambling commercials. It’s disgusting, the banned smoking ads, alcohol advertising they need to to do the same with gambling sites.

They seem to be getting a bit happy here in the UK.

Despite opting out of adverts for alcohol and gambling, there's one company that keeps putting minute long unskippable adverts in my face and I know the only way that's possible is if this one company has found a way around the rules, probably by classifying themselves as something other than gambling.

Unfortunately, if I see something advertised, I generally avoid it. More so for this new trend of YouTube adverts that start with 'this is what [industry] doesn't want you to know'.

Don't forget all these apps and treasure chests in games is gambling, too. For example Raid Shadow Legends is a game that was commissioned (and is owned) by a Las Vegas Casino.

Almost everyone loves capitalism. Lots of people hate regulation. So here we are. If it can make money, no matter what or who is hurt, then it does.

We shouldn't have to choose between capitalism and regulation. They should work together so that people can make money and be protected, but the minute you suggest that capitalism might not be great all the time, you get bullied and called names. The minute you suggest maybe we need some regulation to protect people, you get bullied and called names.

So what do you want? Unfettered capitalism allows the pain. Greedy people are what drive it.

This is a GIGANTIC problem in Australia. We're only now adding little "You win some, you lose more" government mandated messages to the ends of the ads but it's not enough.

Just a comment on YouTubes relationship with gambling, I block betting ads I whenever they play. But I still receive the same ads day after day regardless. It feels like they’ve either somehow gamed the system or YouTube doesn’t care I’ve blocked them as they want the ad revenue gambling ads will pay them. It’s disgusting and my least favourite part of YouTube!

Very interesting, thank you. If you go to a bar and drink too much they stop serving you. You go to a bar and you’re already drunk they refuse service. You go to online gambling site, lose your money you can keep depositing money til you have none! If online gambling wants to remain legal this needs to change.
