Show Hidden Files and Folders in Windows 8 by Britec

Windows has a feature that will hide certain files and folders so that you are not able to see them while exploring the files and folders on your computer system. What are the hidden files? these files are system files, Windows hides these type of System files so that they are not be renamed or deleted.

Malware also likes to hide in these hidden folders, so thats why its a good idea to know how to show them.

I've been searching all over the net for solutions, 'cause my "Show Hidden Folders" Option from the Folder Options does not work. I've been through regedit, and all those solutions and nothing seemed to work except yours. Thank you!

I was a great fan of the old SPYBOT Search and Destroy...but as time goes on and malware changes, I am not sure it cuts the mustard anymore.

I would recommend looking into replacing it. I have seen many hdd begin to degrade rapidly after failing a diag. I usually use seatools, wd diag, then a third party diag to verify bad sectors. You can attempt to repair using these and check disk but in my experience it is usually not successful. If you have your mission critical data backed up then you can ride it out but it will fail eventually. Best to backup and replace imho

Hi Brian thanks for the vids really enjoy them. When you do your spyware/laeware vids i notice you don't use SPYBOT search and distroy can i ask why as i still use the older version which allows you to set up a schedule in whindows task manager to auto update and run and scan regular

That's wonderful ... you've taught the greater ease and flexibility that Windows 8 allows. Please, though, show me how to delete my 'Smoochers' file. (It contained 6 dog collars originally downloaded in zip form, which I then extracted and moved all to Desktop.) It's the "This action can't be completed because a folder or a file in it is open in another program." I'm afraid to download the various unlocker programs out there.

Hey, I have a problem that is a little different. When I want to save a file from internet or something I can't open up a hidden file to save it. Although I got my hidden files visible. It's when you get the "new" sucky screen when you use "save as".

I agree with you Brian. The programmer made a huge change in the coding after version 1.3 that REALLY hosed up computers. I was a huge fan of the software, but after the changes he made I quit using it.

The show hidden items is something Microsoft have made it easier to do on Windows 8, there had to be something, most of it if far more convoluted.

So, basically, once you get down to File Explorer aka Windows Expolorer it is the same as in Windows 7 Tools - Folder Options. Different names and locations in Windows 8 but same functionality.
For all those Windows 7 Die Hards - Window 8 are even better. MUCH better !
