Today's question from Rax is, "I just upgraded to the Canon R6 body, which has In Body Image Stabilization, or IBIS. What's the difference between that and the optical stabilization on a lens? Do I really need both, or can I buy the less-expensive lens without IS?"

Love how you stroked your lens to say sorry after you shook it, can relate 😊

I thought I fully understand the ibis and lens is, but not until after watching your presentation. Thanks.

Answered my "should we stack in body and lens is" - thank you.

I found that on my 400mm the stabilization may cause slightly blurry images if there's still enough light to use faster shutter speed when chasing fast and erratic moving subjects like Birds of prey attacking their prey far away from the camera, or fast planes, subjects you have to chase with pretty fast panning - no matter what IS mode, one, two or three. When I need the last bit of resolution and speed I turn IS off if there's enough light. Looks like IS might trouble clear resolution or perhaps pixel precise autofocus, don't know, when every grain is needed, hard to explain. It's not motion blur but IS-correction on the long end affects the aim for crystal clear image. So I have it enabled like 90% of time, but turn it off if there's no need at all

Thanks. This was the basic answer I was looking for. I use a Canon R3, and one of the lenses I use is an ancient Canon EF 400mm 2.8 L USM that doesn't have IS. It still shoots super sharp, and I really don't want to spend the money on the new RF 400mm or even a use Canon 400mm 2.8 that does have IS.

I have the R6MK2 with IBIS and My favourite lens is the RF 1.2 50mm. It works fine for me,

Brilliant video. You’ve put in the work brother. No question at all about that. 🙌🏼

Thank you

It's like: do you need safety belts? It's better be safe than sorry. When you have stabilization you have more chances not to miss a shot, otherwise you have to rely on continues shooting only. The longer focal distance, the less reliability.

Long lens on tripod, with a bit wind. IS on to counter it, or wouldn't it be able to counter the wind correctly?

Same with wide angle astro. On or off? I always turn it off.

Excellent video as always. Big fan of all Adorama’s instructors!
I have a question. Can you please explain the differences between images sizes? 3.2, 4.3, 16.9, and 1.1. Which would be best for portraits, to print or to make albums ?

I have canon 75-300 mm non image stabilization lens and I am a beginner. The question is how I am able to make a sharp image as my hand is shaking 😢😢😢😢

In normal photography with IS and IBS should I throw away my tripod and never go above ISO 100?

If you had to chose EITHER, would you go IBIS....or lens IS? thx

Was there an answer for vice-versa, I don’t think I caught. What if your camera body (like a Canon EOS 80D) doesn’t have IS. Does it affect much?

That was a fantastic explanation on stabilization David. Thank you. Do you know of Canon figured out the IBIS sensor wobble in the R5/R6?

Does Sony's (on A7iv) IBIS only work while shooting video? I've never seen anyone talk about it while shooting photos and I think it's in the video part of the menu?
