Growing up in the 90’s it was “anti-establishment” to reject labels. Most kids just liked what they liked and didn’t worry about labeling themselves. You could dress goth one day and dress preppy the next day. You could like sports and “girly” stuff. Guys would wear eyeliner and kilts and in general I feel like we were just encouraged to express ourselves and not worry about being put into a box. Now it seems like the opposite, being “anti-establishment” or going against the grain seems to be all about being labeled or put into a box 🤦‍♀️.

I've had an argument with someone over this VERY topic. I was like, "that's WHY they're called trans...you have to transition. Not just say you don't want to be referred to by your given gender." There is nothing trans about non-binary. Trans operate on a binary...they're going from one gender to the other, not eschewing the whole thing entirely. 🙄

Transgender is confirming the fact that there are two genders because you've transitioned from one gender to the other. If you say you're non binary, I could maybe understand if you're in the process of transitioning and you're in that phase where you're a little bit of both but there's still no reason to say you have no gender. And then to compare that idea of being non binary with being that's obviously a statement that doesn't need to be said so confidently.

They seem to think it means "transcending gender", when really it was about transitioning from one to the other. That's not a value judgement on androgyny, I think androgyny is great. But I can't stand it when my sex dysphoria, which has resulted in lifelong celibacy, is treated as some fashion trend.
