1. Debussy Claire de Lune: The third of four parts of Suite Bergamasque, the work is one of the most popular of Debussy's Impressionist works. Composed at the age 28, he initially did not wish to publish it, but decided to do so after revising it at the age of 43. Bergamasque refers to an Italian dance, Bergamask. The experience of beauty is being able to feel the glow of the moon while one's eyes closed.

2. Arabesque No. 1: The arabesque is a line drawn in accordance to nature and described by Debussy, "laws of beauty inscribed in the movements of Nature herself." The piece begins and ends with parallel triad arpeggios in the key of E Major. After a middle section in A major, the recapitulation gives way to ripples of ascending and descending scales in the pentatonic scale. The pentatonic (5 note) scale differs from the heptatonic (7 note) scale in that there are not resonant thirds. Developed in multiple ancient civilizations, the pentatonic scale is effective in evoking the beauty of nature. The waves of arpeggios and scales remind me of the symmetrical beauty and intricate lines of a fresh leaf.
