How to rotate inline skate wheels - flat 4 wheel setup - easy method to rotate rollerblade wheels

In this video I am going to show you how to rotate your inline skate / rollerblade wheels. Specifically I am covering a flat 4 wheel setup where you want to keep all your wheels more or less the same size.

For the purpose of this video the front wheel will be number 1, then number 2 number 3 and finally the back wheel number 4.

Generally speaking you tend to wear out the front and back wheel a little quicker than the middle two wheels..... so let me show you how to rotate them!

Using the method in this video will effectively move the front and back wheels to become the middle wheels and also rotate the wheels from one foot to the other. We will also ensure we have moved our inside edges to become our outside edges.

Overall using this method will give you a good even distribution of wear if you repeat this process often.

Note: There are more complicated ways to rotate your wheels that will offer an even better distribution of wheel wear. However, I think for most inline skaters / rollerbladers out there the method in this video will be just fine...it works for me.

Disclaimer: as with any of my 'how to' videos please note that I am not a qualified skate instructor, nor am I any sort of professional skater. I am just an average skater who is completely self taught. The tutorial in this video is a method that has worked really well for me and I hope others will find it useful.

To optimize the wear of my wheels, I alternate this technique with another. it works very well on all rockered setups. I'm not flipping all the wheels, either, just the ones that need them. I make sure that the worn part is always facing the outside of the feet.

Otherwise, for the maniacs, there is the calipers. o7

Edit: Oops, forgot to say thank you for the video. 😋

How frequently do you do this? Ever season, every other quarter, or some other suggested schedule? I know it’s all subjective but any general thoughts?

Wheel 1 will be always on first or third position. Wouldn't be better to advance them just one spot?

I've read that you rotate your wheels every 1-3 skates and that you may skate for 1 1/2 hours. How far do you go in that time. I'm keeping track of my distance traveled and trying to figure out how often to rotate based on that. Thanks!

I did this process and my 3rd wheel on each side (which was originally the 1st wheel) is so worn down it dosnt make contact with the ground. Should I replace all the wheels, just that one, or just ride till the other wheels wear down to that wheel?

Also, how would I know when it's time to rotate my wheels?

Good video👍👍 but in my case never will work your method, it always deppends on how you brake - T stop or tricks (Slides, Drags) so I have to look up and see which one is more worn, I do T stop with my left foot, most with the front wheel so I have to figure out... You will ask why I am saying this, we are a big rollerblading group and most of them ands with the wheels seems like CONE, because the saw tutorials... So i guess if you have more suggestions on how to swap the wheels will be appreciated 💖

How tight should you tighten the bolts when rotating the wheels?

Thanks for the video. I was just wondering how often do you need to do this? Also, it seems that the second time you do this rotation, the wheels go back to their original spots. Is there a way (is it even necessary) for the the wheels to rotate through every position on each skate and each side?
