I just skate backwards until they even up.

Rotating wheels depends on how much you use them, so eyeballing them will tell you when and if you need to rotate. Look for "coning" and that will tell you that you need to start rotating, flipping, etc.. To help prolong life. Thanks!

For indoor inline speed skating/racing, it is so critical to sustain a clean edge on the wheels while cornering on the track. I’ve found that after rotating the wheels to different positions (and due to natural uneven wear on different wheels) on my frame, the skate feels a bit more squirrelly and I don’t get the clean edge coming around the corners, and as a result, I lose some sense of control and push less aggressively resulting in loss of speed. Wouldn’t it better for inline speed skaters/racers (where we do only left turns) to simply flip the wheels without rotating them to different positions on the frame?

I didn't rotate the wheels on my first pair of skates, even after more than 1.5 years of almost daily skating. I was almost skating on the plastic rim of the wheel. The right time to rotate is when YOU feel like you should do it.

I have hilo skates. I switch 1 with 2, and 3 with 4. While flipping the side of each.

There is no specific timeframe as to when to rotate the wheels, as it is all based on wheel wear. If you fine the wheels are pitting, as in the wheel shown in the video, or the wear on the wheel becomes more pointed to one side, then you would want to rotate. Check out our video "How and When to Choose New Wheels" for more information on wheel wear.

Cleaning bearings is similar to wheel wear in that there is no specific timeframe. With bearings, the more often you clean them, the longer they last and the better they will work. Bearing functionality will be noticeably decreased when it is time to clean them. Also, note that once bearings are cleaned and re-lubricated, the will take a few miles to break back in, so a decrease in performance after cleaning is expected.

So basically you keep using the same side of the wheel if you just swap em around? I have Seba FR1 80's, just got em yesterday (used) and on side of the wheels has been used alrdy a bit and I want to swap em. Do I just flip the wheels so the un-used side gets more ground?

I would switch the skate they are on as one 90mm likely wears more than the other. You then can do 180 degree flips and so forth as well with the 90 wheel.

You can flip 180 degrees, even change skates. Moving around will help prolong wheel life.

At 0.43, why is position 1 on the top skate at the front, and position 1 on the bottom skate at the back? the actual diagram of the top and bottom skates are flipped around. Is this intentional?

Do you happen to know how long wheels would last before a rotation is needed? I've been rotating them about once every 3-4 weeks. I use them about 3 or 4 times a week. Usually on sidewalks.

Position 1 is the front of both skates. They are facing the same direction. Look at the numbers and not the frames. Thanks.

Anytime you see your wheels 'coning' or wearing down you should rotate. This will prolong the life of your wheels.
