I thought the performance drop would be much bigger with the added detail and ray tracing, they've done a really good job.

THX for this comparison, we can clearly see how much better multicore support in 2024 already is.
With the shown settings 2020 is in all cases cpu limited, sometimes very heavily (50% GPU utilization is really heavily CPU bottlenecked), whereas 2024 has in the same situation more like 90-98% GPU utilization, showing how much better your CPU is able to feed the GPU to it´s limits. Mostly I think becaue of much better Multicore support (as also shown in the Core loads).
Only in the New York scenario both sims were CPU limited again, but 2024 much less so than 2020.
I think 2024 will be a blast, eagerly awaiting it´s release :)

I think this is the first video of yours that I have watched, and I have to say I’m really impressed with how you did the video. A little introductory speech and then you allowed us to watch the comparison in peace, without constantly talking over it. Really very good. I’ll be looking out for more of your stuff.

At 13:55 MSFS 2024 really shines, you can see so much more detail in the landscape because the area isn't swamped by trees! Looked like MSFS 2020 was a little later in the day and gave a deeper contrast and more striking visuals, but I'm pretty sure you can get the same in MSFS 2024 if you played around with the timings.

First video I have seen that really shows the improvements made from 2020. That much higher GPU utilisation is brilliant.

Good work, thanks. I kept noticing the horizon difference, the FS2024 horizon appears to be far in the distance whereas the FS2020 horizon appears to be a mid-distance, flat painting.

Thank you so much for this great video. The comparison makes me see how beautiful it looks in the 2024 version. It has many more details, in every sense.

Thank you for the video. Some thoughts. First, the recommendation for 64mb of RAM was probably a good one for people running higher end systems. 32mb might be enough, but I think 64 is a safer bet. Next, while it was not apples to apples, it was still good enough to show that the game will run about the same as 2020 and in some more challenging environments, it looks like 2024 actually did better than 2020. Last comment... I love the improvements for night time cityscapes. I used to love to fly at night (when I was actually flying real planes) but I disliked the way 2020 did night city scenes and rarely flew 2020 at night. 2024 appears to be a massive improvement, and I know I will enjoy flying over large urban areas again.

You didn't show the Dynamic settings, doesn't that provide an AutoFPS type feature, looked like you had it enabled?

You skipped the most important setting: "Dynamic settings" It will scale your settings up and down, depending on your set target FPS. (Lower target FPS ie. 60 fps will improve quality and a higer target like 100 fps will decrease the quality) Only if you /disable/ the dynamic settings, your preset "Ultra" will be true.
Also, having DLSS on AUTO, will scale the rendering up and down. You should make it a constant, like "Quality" for persistence.

I don't understand why we should leave the fs 2020 and buy the 2024? It is the same with other colors worse. Worse clouds worse night

Nice video thanks. I'm actually pleasantly surpised on the improvements they've made in just 4 years.

Thinking more to the budget side of things I think my old I7 4790 (quad core) and RTX2060 (6GB of VRAM) will really struggle with this. FS2020 was actually not too bad outside of the real demanding areas on esentially 1080p medium at around 25-40fps.

I really wonder what version of the game the Series X will get as well. You can see on these benchmarks that this is using significantly more GPU power. I wonder where the savings to get this running on the Xbox will come from?

Great video. Thanks. Hoping I can do some with my old 2080.

Interesting, thank you. Looks like your hardware is generally running hotter in 2024. Did anyone else notice the runway lights seem to be "floating" on the Edinburgh runway?

We are going to see on Nov19th. They did disable some features like grass and that can take away fps now that we have RT shadows!

I'll say it, the environmental detail in 2024 is outstanding. The trees alone are such a jump in quality from 2020, not to mention the lighting and ground detail. They've done an impressive job.

for those who have 2020 it makes no sense to move to 2024

The first clip, taking off at the Grand Canyon, interesting to see once past the end of the runway, 2024 ground texture just past the runway looks inferior. The road was missing to the hangers and it looked flat. Hoping as this is an alpha, the details weren't loaded but will in the live release. It's a bit tight to get any major changes this close to the release

The sky colors look right in 2020 and the ground with the muted greens look right in 2024!
