How to make epoxy (glue) out of tree resin

This video details how to make wilderness glue or epoxy using spruce tree sap. Alternatively you can make this pine tree sap depending on where you live.
A few things that I left out of the video are, you can dip the resin in water after coating the stick with it to immediately harden it then dip it in again, this is a good method if you have water nearby. You should also fish out the gunk that gets mixed in with the resin while its on the fire, this can disrupt the mixing process.
This can seal cracks in wood, it can also be used to hold arrowheads in place along with knife blades in carved wooden handles. It's an all around good sealant and is definitely worth trying out.

I tried this without the charcoal, by setting the resin on fire and dripping it in place, there is carbon produced by burning and it makes the resin super hard as well. Dripped it to repair holes in my tabletop, but of course the drips are still on fire, so the table burns a bit but after some more sanding, the resin is harder than the wood. Thank you for this tip!

cool video and I sent the like but that's not epoxy. That is a phenolic resin glue and very cool that you've worked out your own recipe. If you add a wee bit of formaldehyde and apply some heat you have one of the best glues going around and something slightly closer to epoxy.

We have a few pine trees coming down near me. can I extract the sap from the tree/ how? I don't have much time to get the sap out and the trees will not be salvaged so if the best/ fastest way to get the sap is destructive it won't matter. Please let me know if you have any advice.

Did you mix something in with resin (except for coal) before melting it? I tried this but it just went brown and became something a bit more like a gum but it wasn't sticky and didn't become liquid. What can I do?

Epoxy is a thermoset plastic. You are simply making a glue (not epoxy) from tree resin (not sap). Good video other than a little incorrect nomenclature.
