Epoxy for Beginners: Mixing Epoxy Resin Basics

Показать описание
A short video on the basics of mixing epoxy resins.

Key points:

Glove up and keep wet epoxy resin off of you. Wear appropriate PPE as your situation dictates, this could include tyvek suits, face shields, googles, etc. Uncured epoxy is a skin sensitizer and irritant.

Use the correct ratio, ratios will vary depending on epoxy type and formulation. The weight and volume ratios are often different so make sure you are using the correct ratio for the system and measuring method you are using.

Mix thoroughly scraping the sides and bottom of the container to get everything mixed correctly and completely. Mix for at least 2 minutes.

I was so confused on how to mix the resin and hardener, and I tried to find other videos but all of them were measuring and mixing using weight and my epoxy things says to use volume, but once I found your video it all made sense. Thank you!!

Hello. I enjoy your videos very much. Here is my question. I made a 16’’ tall vase using resin then I made a 10x 15 x 1’’ base ( like a block ) planning to glue the vase on top of the base. Can I use resin as a glue ?

How do you clean the plastic container in which you mixed the epoxy components? Or do I have to use a new one every time?

Will the completed mixed resin stick to concrete? You also didn't explain how long does it take to set up firm

Sorry if I sound stupid(it may be the case, though)but...you said thar by quantity(volume) it is one-two. In weight is 100% 40%? I can't make it cures very well. It is(almost)always some "honey like" residues when the whole is hardened. And it takes at least 2 days depending on the size to solidify.
Thanks for de vid, was useful!

Every epoxy brand is different and, for beginners, low viscosity is definitely recommended because high viscosity versions are a gigantic pain in the ass to mix, remove air bubbles and its super easy to end up with a cloudy mess if you don't combine both parts JUST RIGHT.

Do you jot think using a mask is Important and it's toxic?
Also do you not need to stir slow to reduce bubbles? Been watching a few videos and they seem to vary.

Question- where is the best place to go for supplies/materials to get started, local home depot?

Some epoxies create bubbles while mixing them and these bubbles tend to mar the output of the job. What do I do to ensure that these bubbles do not come up?
Thanks

Can you "keep" epoxy once mixed? Is there a way to prolong it's life while coating in case the area being coated takes longer than the advertised 1 hour?
