At last someone has identified the problem. 😂 I am watch TV shows and films in French with subtitles and can see that spoken French is so different to written French. All I wish to do is communicate not rival Balzac etc

I did this once to my French teacher. I literally only talked to her (when speaking English) in French grammar. I did in fact say, “What is this that this that that, Mrs. I have very fear, Mrs. Is this that here has-t-he of pencils because that I don’t have one.” 10/10 would recommend doing this to your French teacher 😂😂😂

And this is why Americans (that have not studied a foreign langauge) think foreigners are dumb. We can not directly translate. The sentence structures are different.

I lived in Spain. My aunt asked why do they keep saying, no (ne)? I had to explain that isnthe negative of a verb they are not being mean😂.

Nous nous reposons is "we rest us", one of the 2 "nous" means "us". Nous is both we and us in French.
