During the time of their first trial no one believed their testimony. I remember most people saying their lawyer made the story up to get them off. It was inconceivable to most people that their own parents could abuse children. The more heinous the abuse the less likely the child would be believed. It was like being abused twice!

They already mentioned their parents done something horrible to them physically emotionally and mentally, with the mom not doing anything and telling them they deserved it while ago.

If the Menendez brothers had been tried today, there is no way they would have received such a long sentence. Sentiments have changed. And rightfully so.

I bet they had that letter back then but when they did a retrial the judge wouldn’t let any mention of the assault and abuse. I saw a video Bailey sarian did on them explaining that. I didn’t know they had been abused. The way it was on the news was “two spoiled boys killed their parents for money and went on a spending spree showing no remorse.” Just made them seem like brutal empty killers. Poor kids went through unspeakable things.

The first trial had everything you need to know about their parents. Not a single family friend, childhood coach, or relative defended either of the parents and talked about what the brkthers went through because they told them already.

There is a picture of their family when they were kids, where the dad was holding one of the boys...weirdly. Some part of me wishes that the brothers are lying, cause to experience that kind of abuse is absolutely horrifying
