Primer Paint for Beginners - 2K High Build Primer Application on the Honda Step #7

In this episode follow along as I got through some automotive primer basics. The epoxy primer sat for a little over 40 hours before I had a chance to tackle it with some high build, so I scuffed it to ensure proper adhesion. With the putty glaze, I filled the pin holes and minor imperfections to straighten the panels a little more too. Is primer needed? The answer is yes, simply applying paint over filler work will only show the imperfections of the filler applications. And it’s not recommended to throw on layer after layer of base or single stage as it only would cost more money on material and be more work to fade away blemishes. Some of my previous videos also show some bondo for beginners, working with short stand fillers and lightweight fillers. I know of few of you have also asked what psi should I paint with and for myself, I have juggled around with my spray settings. With the epoxy primer, I sprayed at 30 psi out the gun and with the high build primer I sprayed at 28 psi. In my next video, I will go over a few hvlp basics that have helped me during my whole painting process. Honestly painting car grey primer has come out looking pretty nice where I have been pondering the idea of keeping it grey, but I have settled on a car finally and soon I think I am ready to reveal that color with all of you. Still have a lot of block sanding to do on the Honda Civic, going to start with some 220 grit, block it down and then re prime and re sand with 320 and 400 before applying base/clear.

I wanted to reach out and thank Honda Vlogs for mentioning me in his previous video. If you all are looking for a great channel that recaps the YouTube Honda community and more I strongly suggest that you all check out his channel.

He watched Forks Over Knives and said to himself: I need to live healthier from now on. So that's when he started mixing his paints with a stainless fork.

You should spray over your body filler first then over the rest of car.

So many debates over this. Just got off the phone with Tamco they said no filler on bare metal creates heat then condensation on metal and to put over there DTM high build 5310. I do not need epoxy if car is inside all the time it will save you a lot of money just block and top coat your done and still have epoxy properties in the DTM.

Few questions. 1. Did you spray epoxy then body filler then high build ? 2. Did you use that little Dewalt compressor to spray epoxy primer? That's wjat I have and just need to get epoxy laid down

Good job Apply on repairs first before you do the whole area

Great video. Just wondering why you didn’t paint the roof first. Less chance of your t-shirt rubbing on wet primer 👍

Good job.
I have an old Southbend lathe that needs finishing. After I sandblast everything and prep the metal, what 2k epoxy and high fill primer do you recommend?
Thanks,
Paul

New sub. I'm doing a Civic too you don't want to know how much damage it had. Question: The primer you painted over in this vid seemed real shiny what grit was it sanded to (wet or dry?) before your high build? Looks like you're doing a great job I'll have to jump ahead and see the final!
