Chapter 07 – śloka 12:
ये चैव सात्त्विका भावा राजसास्तामसाश्च ये ।
मत्त एवेति तान्विद्धि न त्वहं तेषु ते मयि ॥

ye caiva sāttvikā bhāvā rājasāstāmasāśca ye ।
matta eveti tānviddhi na tvahaṁ teṣu te mayi ॥

Word by Word Meaning:
ye – all those;
ca – and;
eva – indeed;
sāttvikāḥ – of sattva guṇa;
bhāvāḥ – states;
rājasāḥ – of rajo guṇa;
tāmasāḥ – of tamo guṇa;
ca – and;
ye – whatever;
mattaḥ – from Me;
eva – alone;
iti – thus;
tān – them;
viddhi – know;
na – not;
tu – but;
aham – I;
teṣu – in them;
te – they;
mayi – in Me;

Chapter 07 – śloka 13:
त्रिभिर्गुणमयैर्भावैः एभिः सर्वमिदं जगत् ।
मोहितं नाभिजानाति मामेभ्यः परमव्ययम् ॥

tribhirguṇamayairbhāvaiḥ ebhiḥ sarvamidaṁ jagat ।
mohitaṁ nābhijānāti māmebhyaḥ paramavyayam ॥

Word by Word Meaning:
tribhiḥ – three;
guṇa-mayaiḥ – composed of guṇas;
bhāvaiḥ – states;
ebhiḥ – by these;
sarvam – entire;
idam – this;
jagat – world;
mohitam – deluded;
na – not;
abhijānāti – know;
mām – Me;
ebhyaḥ – these;
param – beyond;
avyayam – changeless;

Chapter 07 – śloka 14:
दैवी ह्येषा गुणमयी मम माया दुरत्यया ।
मामेव ये प्रपद्यन्ते मायामेतां तरन्ति ते ॥

daivī hyeṣā guṇamayī mama māyā duratyayā ।
māmeva ye prapadyante māyāmetāṁ taranti te ॥

Word by Word Meaning:
daivī – divine;
hi – indeed;
eṣā – this;
guṇa-mayī – composed of guṇas;
mama – My;
māyā – illusion;
duratyayā – difficult to overcome;
mām – Me;
eva – alone;
ye – those who;
prapadyante – surrender;
māyām – illusion (māyā);
etām – this;
taranti – cross over;
te – they;

Explanation (śloka 12, 13 & 14):
God is the underlying principle in every being, from the spiritually inclined to the ignorant ones. However, consumed by māyā and driven by the guṇas, man is unable to realise the eternal God. Only God’s grace can remove māyā, and the one who surrenders in Him overcomes it and attains Him.

Meaning (śloka 12):
Know that all those states of sattva guṇa, rajo guṇa and tamo guṇa are to be [manifested] from Me alone. I am not in them, but they are in Me.

Meaning (śloka 13):
Deluded by these states of three guṇas, the entire world does not know Me, who am beyond these (guṇas) and changeless.

Meaning (śloka 14):
This divine māyā of Mine, composed of guṇas, is indeed difficult to overcome. Those who surrender to Me alone can cross over this māyā.
