I lived out in California for 2 years after graduating from MSU in 1983-1984. Smog, Traffic and endless sprawl became too much. Moved back to Michigan and couldn't be happier.

The outdoor lifestyle is so underrated, especially up north. Love it.

I lived in Los Angeles in the 70’s and could hardly wait to get back to the Great Lakes. It was like a really loooong summer. I really missed the seasons. I am truly a Midwest person at heart. Thanks for the videos.

I lived in MI until I was 25. I’ve been gone about 10 years now and we’re looking to get back in the next 6 months. The reasons you talked about are the reasons we’re coming back, plus family and cost of living isn’t that bad.

The first time I visited California was a 17-day business trip, and by the end of that 17 days, I was so sick of the sun I could not wait to get back to Michigan where we have occasional clouds and where it actually rains now and then.

Anyone moving to michigan that's never been here before? 2 things to always remember! 1 In Europe they drive on the left, in Michigan we drive on whats left. 2) You will be replacing suspension parts, tires, and rims! Enjoy

About the friendly people. Having lived in both the Midwest and several southern states, what stands out about Michiganders is that for the most part people are authentically friendly. Not friendly because that's how they outwardly present themselves (not saying there are not genuinely friendly people in the south, but there are strong cultural expectations for friendly behavior that often look different in private i.e. "bless her heart"). Obviously not true for everyone, but I've heard many times from others who visit that people seem genuinely willing to help or talk here. And Michiganders have a lot of pride in their state. We know it's not perfect, but there is so much to be thankful for here. In short, Michiganders love to talk about Michigan.

Great video!! Michigan has the most beautiful summers, large comfy homes and gorgeous Great Lakes and wonderful people and neighborhoods and a thriving job culture. But I just can’t take the minus temps anymore as I want to enjoy the outdoors all year round. I can bear the heat but not extreme cold. Wish I could take all the good with me but honestly there is no ‘perfect’ state. It’s give and take, you gain some and you lose some . Bye bye beloved Michigan ..you’ll be sorely missed

Warning about living next to the lakes is to watch out for erosion and the ice crawls so you don't get hurt

My theory is that friendliness throughout the Midwest is either a spillover from Canada or empathy built from sharing harsh cold and gloomy winters 😂 I agree and would take 4 seasons over a year-round constant (lived in Florida and escaped b/c of it too)
