My Fujifilm photos look muddy and I have no idea why. I was about to switch camera systems because I want the best quality possible. Then I found out about Capture One. This video will show you what I learn and if you should choose to use Capture One to edit Fujifilm RAW files.

Capture One is incredible and I use it for both Fujifilm X and Leica systems. Subbed for the informative and entertaining video. But most of all, the Guts shirt. Loved the watch, Yousef!

There is another alternative: Fujifilm Raw Studio, which is free. Gives the exact same raw conversion quality and settings as in camera.

easy reason... fuji isn't a bayer sensor. it is x-trans. the layout of colors is not a standard array of photo receptors. it actually eliminates some bayer issues such as moire. x-trans allows fuji to remove the low pass filter and that results in better quality (for the same size/resolution sensor). it has reduced color fringing abd improved sharpness. The reason lightroom sucks compared to capture one is that lightroom doesn't account for this x-trans layout of color photo receptors. Instead it interpolates things and tries to force the x-trans layout into a set of processing algorithms that were designed for a bayer layout.

Capture one natively processes x-trans layout, and thus shows the added benefit of the x-trans sensor. to this day, i have absolutely no idea why adobe refuses to update lightroom to include x-trans support natively. perhaps the software code is so insanely complex it wouldn't be easy to retroactively add it without a major overhaul? but then capture one does bayer and x-trans no problem, but maybe it was designed that way from the ground up and thus more easy to implement? maybe adobe has something against fuji? i have no idea. but it made me drop lightroom for c1, and i've never looked back.

+9 clarity, +26 texture, +40 sharpness yields almost pixel for pixel results comparable to what capture one is applying in the background without the added noise of just pumping sharpening. Only sharpen past 40 with masking at 100%.

I honestly just canceled selling my new Fuji XH2s. I was using the A74 and light room. If it wasn't for your video, I probably would've already sold my Fuji cam. Thank you for your help

Its worth mentioning price. C1 is more expensive from outset and they are now apparently trying to push people away from buying one off purchases of their software to an annual subscription model. An announcement coming in early Feb on the future pricing. For an amateur who might go a month or two without using its starting to look just too expensive to justify the price.

Yeah been saying this. But Fuji needs to help fix this because many people are loyal to their LR workflow. I switched to C1. The C1 colors are just better

I've been use C1 for about three years and love every second of using it. After a year I went back to LR and it felt more like a childs toy. I watched a video about how Phase One dove into each camera body and lens to calibrate C1 for each body/lens. They just don't guess, they get it right on. Also I find C1 is designed for professionals. You can create several workflows for each type of photography you do. All the way from importing to deliverables. Another great feature is being able to move the tools around. You can't do that in LR. Everytime Phase One updates C1 it just keeps getting better and they listen to their customers. Yeah, we've been able to bring back features they removed or add tools people requested even though pros don't use them.

I switched to C1 for my Fuji RAFs a few years ago and never looked back. I appreciate that this is a very clear look at how much better the files look in C1

Long time ago I switched from Lightroom to Capture One exactly for that reason. Now I switched from Capture One to DxO PhotoLab 6 as it's another big improvement. With low ISO images you get even more detail and high ISO especially with new 40mpix is no contest. Capture One has some kind of problem with new Fuji sensor and creates lots of noise with weird patterns. DxO on the other hand creates this filmic Fuji noise with better detail. Deep Prime noise removal is really top notch.

I can't believe I've been resisting trying out Capture One for so long. Since switching from Olympus to Fuji, I haven’t been able to use my old presets in Lightroom. No matter how much I tried, I couldn’t achieve the same look I was getting with the Bayer sensor. A week ago, I installed Capture One, and everything has changed since then. For me, aside from the sharpness and detail I’m now getting, the most important thing is the color consistency. I'll never look back.

I’ve talked to an engineer of CaptureOne (PhaseOne) when I switched to Fuji some years ago. C1 is the only software (because they cooperate with Fujifilm) that can actually read the X-Trans Sensor and the CMOS Files. Every other software (including LR) has to reverse engineer the Files. So it’s more or less guessing of the software

Recently moving to Fujifilm X, I was incredibly disappointed by the Raw performance, and have been looking at Capture One. This video sealed the deal, and got you an immediate subscription as well. Cheers!

Just got a Fuji X-T5 as my first Fuji, but I was using C1 a bit before to see if I wanted to switch from LR, but this really has helped me make that final decision to let my LR subscription expire :)

I usually use Silkypix to convet Fuji x-trans files and export them to LR. I made some tests and i think it is better than LR and even better than CaptureOne in my opinion. It worth a try.

You hit my humor spot on, and the video is also very informative. Subbed!

The problem with CO is the performance, they simply can not solve the shagginess on high resolution screens, every slider has a latency, half a second, sometimes even a full second. On a 5K iMac it is a disaster since always. The problem could be solved with the Open In Low Resolution option available since the Monterey, however there is no such option anymore and we are stuck with the incredibly slow app. LR is instant, so it is possible.

As for the sharpness, well it is true but not the way you presented here. CO sharpens much, much better, but it also starts with high noice reduction setting while LR does not. also, CO sharpening is far from perfect, it has a lot of splotchiness and LR noise looks better so not a clear win as it seems.
Most of the time the difference is negligible if it exists at all. But with the foliage and with the high iso images there could be some problems with the LR sharpening.

In the end it really does not matter which one you use, and most of the time the comparisons in which one kills the other are flawed, just as yours. Your black and white conclusions seen a bit too religious and I believe you rushed up with them, and I do not blame you, we are all guilty of that. Just, the reality is a bit more complex. :)

Super informative video, but the quality of production is nuts.

I used C1 for about a year, than DxO and other converters and finally LR. I then stayed with LR for ease of use. The difference is not that dramatic to me, but I still use DxO PureRaw with DeepPrime that is much better than either LR and C1 when it comes to low light enhancements at the import process.

Please consider: LR changed the default sharpness level to 40 with newer releases - that is too much for Fujifilm files (in my observation). Go back to 20 or 25 and you‘ll see a more reasonable result.

Plus: C1 is now ridiculously expensive. 29 Euros/month??
