This is very devastating. I'm devastated.

What I love about the ending, is after courting all these mega wealthy men in power and seeing others as simply a commodity, she was powerless against journalists and lab inspectors. She had no angle on them.

I think she felt devastatingly devestated

Honestly, George’s reaction at 1:34 is the best part.
He is now realizing that he chose a charlatan over his own grandchild.
I’d hoped he felt ashamed, unfortunately he never apologized to his grandson to his face.

I absolutely love the actress portraying the journalist. Her voice and her reactions are just so perfect.

The grandfather, Schultz, aggravated me the most. The way he treated his grandson and turned his back on him was inexcusable. I'm disgusted with the way people will stubbornly persist on defending their choices, even when it's obvious they're wrong.

Sam Waterson's reaction at 1:34 with his ears shifting- the moment his character realized he had been played.

No display of empathy. She’s just devastated… cause she got caught.

The more tragic ending is that even after Holmes' departure from Theranos, some people still tried to dig in on this Edison machine to see if there's anything usable for further development and yet, NOTHING. Edison was built so prematurely it's even less competent than the already existing diagnosis machines. In the end, Holmes' idea to make "a portable blood analyzer capable of 200 blood testing just by a prick on a finger" was merely an idea. It was never there to begin with. Edison was basically a toy or doll to play.

Everytime she said devastated/devastating, she was fighting the urge to blink 😅

the dropout was a really great depiction of how a disordered personality and lack of empathy can really ruin amazing potential and dreams. lack of self awareness is most peoples downfall.

Empathy for sociopaths is a very noble thing. For me, she optimises the bubble mentality that exists in start ups where hype is a propelling force but all too often there is a real lack of substance. Cynically getting pregnant to the first rich guys she met. Her dad was an exec at Enron… people like this should be denounced not celebrated. The pair of them should spend some time in jail.

She is usually very opinionated and know what's she wants to say. Her mind must've really went blank then and all she remember was that legal staff telling her to say it was devastating.

Really, watching this series and reading up on Elizabeth Holmes, it seems like she had a lot of the pieces and potential to be a legitimate success. She seemed very intelligent, enough power of persuasion to get people on her side, and some ideas that, with more experience and testing to get them to a good place, could’ve maybe worked at some point. And yet, with all that was going for her, pretty much everything that could’ve held her back ended up being her downfall. Namely, her moving too quickly in a field she knew very little about, hubris and narcissism pushing her, inability to accept criticism and the consequences of what could go wrong with it, and a seeming lack of empathy overall. And it just goes to show: all that potential means nothing if you use the wrong means to reach that success.

I'm dying to know what parts of the dialogue are paraphrased, direct quotes & from the mouths belonging to the ears that heard her speak.
I'm fascinated by this whole ordeal & would totally buy a book as long as Holmes didn't see a cent of the profit. I haven't watched this series yet bc I haven't become OK with her benefiting in any way from it. I know the creators & people involved made sure to get the legal ducks in a row by she totally would file a lawsuit otherwise - even though she absolutely doesn't need the finial gain that might arise from it. There's not a doubt in my mind she's gonna be a total "Karen" within a few years.

I think it’s important to remember in all of this that Elizabeth Holmes didn't do anything that larger corporations don’t do every single day as a regular course of business that harms human beings and the planet. She is undoubtedly a compelling character for a drama like this, and it is entertaining and satisfying to see her get her well-deserved comeuppance. But she's only one person, and Theranos was only one company in the parade of horrors coming out of Silicon Valley every day.
