Imagine being in a machine gun nest and seeing 500 men charge at you wearing modern combat armor while wielding a greatsword. Would be a terrifying sight ngl

It actually pretty intense. Both sides are nuclear armed, so they both signed treaties saying no guns in the neighbourhood.
That doesn't mean people don't want to hurt each other.
So, these weapons come in handy. Some of it is old school world war one trench stuff, some is the cool new toys.
The really cool part though is that both sides are dusting off old books. I saw a drill of the Indian army literally using testudo. The US military also sent advisors to train each other, and was yes, Indians are bringing up old school techniques from the days well before Alexander
At this point i really want to see a cavalry charge but since it's very rough terrain it's probably not going to happen.

Clubs and bludgeons are probably one of the more effective Melee weapons for the modern day since we don't use armor meant to stop blunt force, they're easy to manufacture, require minimal maintenance and don't require much training.

We went from beating things up to throwing things to making thing that throw thing faster just to go back and say "stick is good, stick is good"

i really like the idea of everyone just agreeing to fight each other medieval style again with cavalry, polearms, shield walls, siege weapons, archers, and arbalests

also cause casualties in war would be even fewer as casualties in medieval combat were actually quite low and it was very rare for one side to massacre the other unless they encircled them and weren't taking prisoners

Using melee weapons to get around a cease fire is basically the definition of malicious compliance
