They are very common here in New Zealand.About 100 years ago our government planted 100's of acres of Red Woods in a trial plot near the town of Rotorua. They are huge now!! They average about 8ft diameter. They grow so fast they make a poor timber so the forest is kept as a wonderful park now

Do they also clone the Micorrhyza? These trees have been able to grow to such heights in co-operation with their accompanying funghi…

I’m trying to grow my own redwoods at home. But I think it will take a while for them to get that big.😂

I’m a climbing arborist. I would like to help collect sample’s. Also trying to find the tallest and oldest Douglas firs in NW Oregon, and climb them to measure them and record their location, mybe would be helpful for conversation efforts!!!?

I like the idea of assisted migration, but I see no reason to clone a few old trees. Instead they should grow them from seeds taken from as wide an area as possible so that they have maximum genetic diversity in their new environment.

Nice work. But what about collecting seeds? Cross breeding is healthiest

I have been growing 4 Coast redwoods in Maryland since 2006, I planted 2 more during 2022 summer, and I have one more growing in a pot in my house. that I will plant outside when it gets about 3 feet tall, 2 coast redwoods are about 17 feet tall, while two have just developed a leader they were taken from a side branch cutting took them 16 years to produce a leader, they are about 5 feet tall now, those 2 are supposedly Cold hardy redwoods "swarthmore college" cuttings in PA taken from coast redwood trees in California that were higher altitudes, so supposedly they are cold hardy

So you can buy these from the Arbor Day foundation for $12.99 each, hardy to USDA zone 6. I wanted to buy from this place after watching this video, but seems they do not sell and only plant trees on "carefully selected properties after long consideration.. Some trees can require as much as $1000 a tree in resources"

Wait, in the video he said "You don't need any money". $1000 IS MONEY. $12.99 not so much.

Perhaps clone these intelligent humans that are cloning the redwoods also, as it seams they are also rare and endangered?

They mention climate change in the video, seems we can't talk about anything without bringing up Climate Change. So how did these Redwoods survive for over 200 million years if they can't survive climate change?? We are in an interglacial period, the last interglacial period ended about 115 thousand years ago, Temperatures were warmer at its height than we have today (we haven't reached our warmest yet). Earth's climate has never been stable, So how did these trees survive far more severe climate change than we are seeing today....
Redwoods use to cover large parts of North America and existed and thrived all around the world but have been dying out for millions of years . With or without humans this planet would still be warming it is in an interglacial period of an Ice Age ..

But isn’t the clone the same age as the parent? And is the assumption that the old growth giants are genetically superior?

A clone is not better or equal leave them alone. No one knows the th long term affect of cloned tree or anything else.
