Why does my RC have wheel wobble? We have received a number of messages about this issue and in this video we show you some of the probable causes and fixes. This video also talks about why a wheel may drag or is seized too. We’ll discuss wheel bearings, spacers on the axle and even how tight a wheel nut should be. We’ve made this video as general as possible to try and help you with whatever style of vehicle you may have. Do you have a tip or suggestion about wheel wobble or other issues in this specific area of an RC car? Please add it to the comments to help our RC community find the information they need.

@RCDriver_Online I have a slash vxl 2wd and when I give it full throttle or a good bit of throttle it will squat in the back end and start to sway in the back end then it gets hard to keep strait and control it. So how do I fix or prevent this in my slash?

sometimes the car is in the cheap end and if you screw the screws tighter, it won't turn anymore!

Just got mine and there's a wiggle when the vehicle stars moving, there's no wobble though.

Great video Greg. My son noticed he was getting some wheel wobble on his Redcat Volcano EPX Pro and after your video the bearing was the first thing we checked. You were right on with the assessment, it was a blown bearing. Thanks again for all you do to make our hobby more enjoyable. Keep up the great work guys and keep the videos coming!

Love vids like this. Are you only going to do these 2? Also, I do have wheel wobble/slop but how do I know what size shim to use. Example vehicle with 12mm hex do i just need to find a 12mm washer. Not having much luck googling 12mm rc car washer/shim. Thanks much!!!

i had a slash come in to fix from one of my friends, all of the above problems plus some and late stage damage to the the diff. so im going to tell you what happened and what broke all because of bad bearing's. so it needed new A arms because of the wear on the bolt hole's caused by the vibrations from the blown out bearing's ( multiple ) making the caster block move because of the enlarged holes. sense the axles where wiping around because of the bearing and caster block problem, it put wear on the diff cup to the point where the output shaft hole had gotten big enough for the output shaft to unmesh from the other gears and strip it out ruining all the differential gears . he continued to run it with the blown out diff and somehow the bearing that sits on the outside of the diff housing had locked up and melted the housing. it was at that time he finality stopped running it and gave it to me to fix. now when i say he was bashing it HARD i mean it. i took apart the slipper clutch and instantly noticed that one its not flat its now coned shaped and two the slipper clutch plate had gotten hot enough to turn the metal into different colors on the back side. if you didn't know that takes 800* F or 427* C for metal to change color. THATS HOT!!!! so i also ended up having to get a whole new slipper clutch assembly for it as well. there may have bean some parts i forgot about but the cost of all the repairs just to get the thing moving again including new tires was $250. moral of the story if you hear a new sound check it out, if you have a blownout bearing replace it, also don't punch it full throttle all the time. :-)

I put on brand new bearings and hub carriers on my Xmaxx and now there seems to be a small amount of wiggle on the wheels now. Have you heard of that happening on the Xmaxx? The stock setup didn’t have that issue.

Hello @RCDriver_Online, would you be able to comment or give advice on how to select/find the correct shim size/thickness? I have a Redcat Tornado EPX, there's definitely slop at all four wheels. Each time I put any kind of shim on to, as soon as I tighten the wheel nut the wheel (assuming it's the bearing) would seize up (what you mentioned at 5:22). I've tried shims of different sizes and thickness, tried putting the shim inside the bearing space and outside, nothing works. The only times the wheel does not seize up is where is NO shim. Please help! Thank you.

greati video! i have a question. I’ve been greasing my diffs for quite some time now and feel pretty confident about doing it. but I have a problem and haven’t been able to find a solution.

for the rear, one wheel spins faster than the other. I’ve checked everything and its all working perfectly. I’ve even opened the seals on the bearings and lubricated them, still nothing. one wheel seems to have more resistance than the other. tried using less grease on that side, still nothing. If you have any recommendations please let me know! thanks
