that extended gas hose is a great idea like the way you set that up you are prepared for any power outage in your future and know what you can and can't run smart planning steve

Steve, this vid. has kindled all kinds of memories. Do you remember "The Great Ice Storm of "98 ) that crushed Eastern Ont. and parts of Quebec. Customers where without power for 3 days to 3 months, a lot in the 6 week range. Huge steel transmission towers came crashing down and the flash could be seen 150 miles away. It was mostly rural and small town. I know a farmer that lived it, wasn't a genset to be had in Ontario. Largest deployment of Canadian Armed Forces since the Korean War. Could you imagine. Wow. I'll shut up, I talk to much. doug

You should do a vid on your fuel set up Steve.

I have a bigger generator because i take it out and run heavy power tools and stuff on it. I have kept an eye out for a smaller Honda one because it would use less fuel to run my house.

I keep 3 jerry cans and some plastic fuel cans. I rotate the fuel every 6 weeks through my car. I keep some smaller petrol cans for fuel for petrol power tools or if i have to take my generator somewhere. The jerry cans i find leak vapours while the plastic petrol cannisters don't. Plus i keep one for fuel thats gone rancid and run that through my lawn mower.

I inherited one of these. It's on the driveway, idling, right now. I am doing so to run the bad gas out of it, but I don't know what to expect of it. Your video is very informative. This thing is running like a top, although I haven't put it under a load. It was encouraging to hear you say it could take it. I am not surprised. I beat the hell out of Honda four stroke dirt bikes throughout the 80's, and they could take it. Honda is awesome.

Steve, have you ever heard of a thing called a GenerLink. I am considering purchasing one. The GenerLink is a 5 inch device that fits behind your electric meter.Power company pulls your meter, stabs this link in and stabs the meter back on. At the bottom of the link there is an electrical quick coupler that you plug 1 heavy cord from your generator, comes with your purchase in optional lengths. When you plug into the link it automatically disconnects your house from the grid. You control the load by your breaker box, turn on the circuits you need whether furnace or A/C or what ever. I don't have a lot of space in my utility room. Obviously this is all outside. For me it would solve the hassle of extension cords, tranfer switches, sub panels and lack of room. The OEA stamps this product and the electricians I have spoken to say it saves a ton of labour to install a system and would be about the same cost as going with a transfer switch. Maybe a viewer can enlighten me on the negatives. Curious doug. Thanks

I do about the same with gas. I have 3 cans I keep through Hurricane season then dump them in the truck. Works out well.

Now seriously, when I watched Part 1, I wasn't thinking that this applies to me as our electrical (hydro in your case) sources are different.  Watching this and thinking back through it.  The solutions that you define in this series is very applicable.  Our electricity is delivered above ground and often goes out during ice storms.  Thank you!

i got a generator on sale at ctc that uses gas or propane. i can't pull the cord so i got the one that has electric battery start button. now i wonder if i can hook up the natural gas of my house to it. my generator is in the garage that i could put it outside. i have a 14 gauge cord to go into the house. this way i could run cords to that outlet in my radio shack. now just curious what is the difference of ng to propane. good show steve.

Electrical idiot here. We lost power multiple times last winter so we’re looking for a generator now. All we really want is something to power 2 Refridgerators, a few lamps, charge phones, coffee maker, a toaster oven, and if possible the tv and wifi. Would this unit handle that or should we look at the 3000? Thank you! Great video!
