Now that we have been RV Living Full Time for 6 months, we have found what products we truly need. One of them is a generator- whether you have solar or not.
We purchased our Honda EU2000i generator 16 years ago as Hurricane Charley was approaching our home in Central Florida. It kept us powered up for a week while our power was out. Since then it has gotten us through many extended power outages because of hurricanes. When we bought our First travel trailer in 2011, our honda generator was the perfect companion for our RV so we could dry camp.
In this video we will share our 16 year experience with this generator and its successor the EU2200i generator. We will cover these topics Important specifications, Maintenance, Storage, Connecting to an RV, extension cords, fuel cans, using it with a solar setup, and our overall 16 year impression.
We will also go over the baby brother to the EU2000/EU2200, the EU1000i generator and how that may be an excellent option.
If you are looking for portable generator, the Honda line of generators cant be beat, but they are not the cheapest generator on the market, you get what you pay for.

We've had our EU2000i for 18 years and love it. Our camping friends had their EU2000i stolen one night while camping, so now we always chain ours to something solid -- that would be a good tip for your viewers.

I've owned my 2000 for 5 years and it performed like a champ during hurricane Sally a few days ago. TV, satellite, internet, fridge and a couple lights saved the day!

I'm in the market for our first generator and keep going back and forth between the spec-comparable $500-$600 generators and a new Honda 2200, although the Honda is double the price. The fact you guys have had this for 16 years is amazing and has really pushed me in the direction of just spending the money now and saving the headache down the road!

Thank you. This is the only video I have found that shows the longevity of a Honda generator. I do not care about an unboxing or the fact that a Honda started while it was brand new. This video confirmed what I had been thinking. If a Honda EU2200I is used for emergency back up power, and I maintain the generator according to the manual, it will last for decades. Thanks again.

I bought a 2, 200 watt Kohler generator from a preacher, who bought it at a power company auction. It started it's life installed on a power company truck. I worked construction and used that generator regularly for 18 years. The rings were getting worn and it was starting to smoke a little, plus I wanted a 4, 000 watt generator, so I sold the 2, 200 watt and bought a new Coleman 4, 000 watt, manual start. I used it regularly for about 9 years and then I retired. I was still living on the coast then and had to use it after a tropical storm knocked out power for a few days and after Hurricane Ike blew through. I moved inland and I keep it in my shed, because periodically bad weather will knock out power for several hours and this 16 year old generator can run my window AC, which is a must for surviving Texas summers! My "secret" for longevity is regular oil changes, completely running the gas out of the carburetor when I'm done using it and never storing it with gas in the tank!

Great video from 3 yrs ago, Thank you. I bought my EU2000i a few months before Hurricane Charley, we lived in Punta Gorda (ground zero for Charley) It has performed flawlessly ever since 2004. I usually get 9 hours run time to a tank of fuel. Had it running for 15 days straight until the power was restored to this area. In 2022 purchased a EU2200i as a back-up after Hurricane IAN clobbered us once again, this time living in Port Charlotte. I use the EU2000i weekly to do the yard trimming, have a little trailer I tow behind the lawn tractor to carry the generator and various yard tools It's been a life saver..

This generator is the best combination of power, fuel efficiency and portability. The benchmark all the others compare to.
I traded a 12k watt generator for one EU2000 and have been happy. The fuel consumption is a concern in an emergency situation.

I just ran my Honda EU1000I paralleled to my EU2000I generator as a test using a Harbor Freight parallel kit. Starting the EU1000I first, then the EU2000I, I was able to attain 21 amps @117 volts. I measured this with separate voltage and current meters, both true rms.

I'm not sure how to describe in words, what is so likeable about your video, but I really like your presentation. There is something about the way you speak that seems so organic. Your presentation is very clear and fluid. It makes it really easy to follow .

I have my Dad's Silver Honda EX 800 Generator. Still runs like a champ being over 40 years old.

I have both of them and they are absolutely the best little generators Lon the market. My 1000 watt model has about 1600 hours on it and it still starts first pull every time. My 2000 watt model has almost has over 2500 hours on it and it operates flawlessly. I installed small hour meters on all of my portable power equipment just to keep up with the oil changes.
I have always run full synthetic oil in my engines so perhaps it has contributed to the long term reliability..
