I haven't seen an Elite in a long time. I was a college student back then. Seems like a long time ago now. My how cars have changed since then
The "Elite" was introduced in 1974 to compete in the popular at the personal luxury car segment that included fast selling models from GM like the Grand Prix, Cutlass Supreme, and Monte Carlo. and the car sold well. The "Elite, "was based on Ford's midsize Gran Torino, and cost less than $6, 000 new. For the first model year went by the "Gran Torino Elite". For '75 and '76 the car was simply an "Elite". I really liked the styling athough critics said it was overstyled. After 1976 Ford revamped their midsize lineup and the "Elite" went away. It looks out of place with the cars of today but that's the way it was back in the 1970's.

My Mother got a 75 Elite brand new and drove it for 10 years. She would come in every now and then and say to me and my Dad, "That red light came on. I need someone to check the oil." She had a real "class" problem with 'asses sticking out from under hoods' and refused to allow anyone to mess with her car except on her say-so. She sold it to me eventually and I drove it for a couple of years. BOAT! Knowing it's history I kept the same cheap-ass Quaker State in it that Dad always bought, and kept the levels checked.

When I traded it for a used 78 Corolla I got the better deal. A friend worked at a nearby dealer and saw it on a carrier one day. He asked about it. The dealer had changed the oil, noticed the sludge, and flushed it with Rislone. The engine seized on the first test driver after that! LOLOLOLOL

Unfortunately most of the cars of this era have been thrown away as junk, probably because of their obnoxious door buzzers! I can't understand why, Ford in particular, put the worst door chimes/buzzers in their vehicles during the 70's&80's. Thanks for posting!

Take the smog crap off this car, its a classic dont need it, then throw duel exhaust on it .. so you end the back pressure in the exhaust valve's and gives you about 10% H/P then later on i would throw a 4 barrel on it for better fuel milage ... and put some enthusiasm in your video's :) lol
