This is a cool ride, would be nice to see this one running down the road again. I believe this was built on the Ford Torino platform but with more luxuries.

Growing up, when I was in the Big Brothers program, my big brother rep had one just like this...same color as this one...i've always wanted one, also😎

At Southwest Leasing I had to park a 1976 Elite that came off lease. The carburetor caught fire as I parked it in the storage lot. I just opened the hood and extinguished the flames with a Pendleton shirt! I miss that shirt, and both were made in the U.S.A.

Converters started in ‘75. Competition was Monte Carlo.

Definitely something worth starting a rebuild on. What would it take to get that out of the yard?

Nice, not sought after, but needs to be saved. Ford and the Chrysler Cordoba were chasing the Chevy Monte Carlo.

That car is 100% restorable! It was on the Grand Torino body styling and had same tail lights.

These were the replacement of the Ford Gran Torino . My Dad bought this exact car in 76 . Had a 351 Cleveland in it !

You know how rare it is to see a center console shifter & bucket seats for this car? My father ordered a brand new elite in 76 red with black interior with a floor shifter. One that same color interior exterior with the floor shift ever only my dad’s.

When the Elite came out in 1974 it bore the name Gran Torino Elite. For '75 & '76 the Elite became a stand alone name.

No, these competed more than likely with GM A body cars more than anything, but they were a failure of sorts as GM kept those cars going and the Elite died after only a few years. Yes, similar to the Ford Torino.

We got the VIN, we win: 6 for 1976 model year, G for Chicago, IL assembly, 21 for Ford Elite, S for 400 V8 with two barrel and the rest is the production sequence. The Chicago, IL plant still operates today. The 400 V8 was an emission engine and was a sloppy runner. The Motorcraft two barrel used was awful and many were tossed out in favor of aftermarket replacements. The 400 V8 was always a two barrel in these iterations.

We got the tag, we can brag: 65H for Ford Elite, 46 for Dark Jade exterior paint, GR for Full Odense (G) Jade (R) vinyl top, F2A for Green and white bucket seat interior trim, U for C-6 automatic transmission, 2 for 2.75:1 rear axle ratio, non-locking, and 22 for Charlotte, NC sales district.

These era Fords were sloppy all around: They ran sloppy, handled sloppy, had sloppy quality control, shifted sloppy and were overall a sign of everything wrong with the American automotive industry in the 1970s. Not that the other Big 3 were stellar, but Ford was among the worst with Chrysler and AMC leading up the rear.
