'76 Torino Old Start, February 2011

Seems like anything over freezing isn't considered cold start material, so how about an "old start" then?

I have owned 3 Gran Torino's and none of them needed more than one pump to set the automatic choke, even in the coldest weather. They never failed to start.

I agree, and certainly different from newer cars. The dash is in great shape strangely. The gauge needles and text are still bright, none of the trim is faded or broken. No big cracks in the vinyl pad. I like it!

I love this Torino. I'd have it condition-wise the same, but put on some fresh white-striped tires and stock hubcaps and drive it like that. Thumbs up man.

Loves to be pumped? Never heard that before until your video. I had a '74 in Stuttgart, Germany back when it was West Germany, drove it from '83-'84 and it NEVER had to be pumped. I'd go on business trips, be gone for a month and a half, get in & push the pedal to the floor once and it would start immediately and trust me, the winters got COLD. I like your Gran Torino anyway. ANY videos of '74 - '76 Gran Torinos I love to watch! I'll have another some day. :)

That's a nice dashboard layout on that car. Still user friendly after all these years.

I've had four different cars (all with 2bbl carbs) that if let sit more than a few days had to be pumped in this manner. A '77 Olds that I had was the opposite (it had a Quadrajet) and was much along the lines of your experiences. It would start in 10°F weather with one or two pumps every time.

Yessir. (In my opinion) in this configuration it is one of the toughest cars around.
We get strange precipitation like this a few times a year. Sometimes I'll put a dinner plate out to collect the snow pellets and scoop 'em into a soda.

Thanks guy. The stock hub caps are actually really neat, I'd use 'em too! (If I wasn't worried that they'd be taken or fall off!)

@CorvusCasull I also noticed the good shape it's in. That's another thing about it that caught my eye. Nifty that it also has the original FoMoCo radio. :)

@CorvusCasull What you said is fascinating! I bought the Gran Torino IN Stuttgart and had it tuned up by a German mechanic. How often do you change vacuum hoses/fuel filter/etc? Just a thought. My 2nd time I took a Mustang II to Kaiserlautern, had it tuned up by a German mechanic and afterwards it ran like ALOT stronger and faster. I could reach 100mph in no time and hold it there from full to empty. I would drive my Gran Torino 120mph from full to near empty too. Adrenaline rush!! :)

That's not sleet, it's not hail.. they're like tiny little snowballs! I'm from Wisconsin, and I think that's strange.
The old Torino's a good ol'; bird, isnt she?
