I recently bought an id4 pro s and I really like it: lots of power, very comfortable (massage seats!), and good looks. Software is smooth and responsive, so it’s no longer an issue. Except for navigation, I’m not a fan of touch screens in cars. The id4 has some button controls and the voice controls are excellent. Manny P.

My 2023 ID4 S with the smaller 62kWh battery pack is not "slow"....it's got more than enough power.... for $35, 290 after the 10k discount and tax credit it's value packed... Built like a tank...corners like a slot whisper quiet cabin, most comfortable seats don't sell it short.... I can get 225 miles of range on a full charge which in So Cal is plenty... I solar charge at home for free....it's really a great vehicle I'm so happy I got it!!

Here in canada the AWD Y starts at 70, 000$ canadian, but you will get 5000$ back
Cost 65, 000$ plus sells tax
The AWD ID4 starts at 58, 000$ and you get 12, 000$ back, cost is 46, 000$ plus sells tax.
65K compare to 46k????
Why not to buy the ID4??

Sam, Tesla MY is definitely more expensive:
- $1, 000 more per year for insurance
- $1, 000 Trailer hitch mount not standard (ID4 upper trim has it)
- No free Supercharging (ID4 gets free 1, 400 kWh in Canada over 4 years)
6.40% vs 3.99% finance rate over 60 months
$1, 000 No roof rails (ID4 has it standard and you can use your existing cross bars; just maybe need different mount)

All these add up to ~$15, 000 over 8 years.

So, cost and value is not comparable between the two.
And now with the significant updates, the ID4 is a truly compelling option!

VW range estimates are much more conservative than Tesla's inflated numbers, so comparison is not as simple as comparing EPA ratings

Range is not effected by weight as much as aerodynamics. The ID.4 is a relatively large vehicle, so it’s not very aerodynamic which is why the range isn’t great for its battery size.

I think the upgrades do make the ID.4 a better car. I am curious to know how well the software works and whether the touch screen is still laggy. In the end, though, the Model Y still provides greater range - especially the long-range version - and a much better charging infrastructure for road trips.

The problem with the ID.4 as You Tubers who actually owned the car state, is it’s crappy software. It can leave you bricked on the side of the road. I think this has been fixed? Also, Tesla’s supercharging network gives it the edge over every other EV all other things being equal.

he said that the ID4 heavy but if you compare a big battery awd id4 vs a long range duall motor Tesla model Y It's only 300 lbs more thats not that much.

It depends on where you live. I live in a small country, and all the cities around the capital are 50, 70 km distance, the farthest city in any direction is about 250km, so 250 miles is about 400km, so it is more than enough for my country and my capital. The taste is a very subjective thing, but in my opinion VW much better-looking car inside and outside

Why are you so negative on Volkswagen, the range of their ID cars is competitive.
What is rarely mentioned is the high performance EVs discharge their batteries way faster than the claimed kWh/100km if the performance is used, which begs the question, why would you want to use all that performance in the first place.
The ID cars out-perform the I.C.E. cars in their segment, which is plenty for everybody's needs.
I am certainly delighted with my VW ID.

I've been looking at a few used ones, and they all seem to have lemon title issues. I wonder if the 2024 updates could be applied to the 22' and 23' year models.

The new engine will be much more efficient. Presumably, the new engine will also be used for the weaker version and throttled down a little by software.

The software has become really good and is fun to use.

You're just not taking into account the reality of buying a car. Financing and dealer discounts for instance are very good on VW ID4s right now. You can buy out the lease anytime you want and certainly at the end. It's true an all-wheel drive Model Y looks like an excellent car at the price in the US. However the least rates are not good, there are no dealer discounts, and you have zero option to purchase the vehicle at the end of the lease. Big disadvantages. Meanwhile my local VW dealer has wonderful salespeople, nearly 90 id4s on the lot, you can test drive multiple versions. They will sit there for hours and answer questions and you can call them and take the car by anytime if you had questions or issues. Mechanically I think a Model y is better car and certainly faster. But I think a lot has to do with the dealer experience. If you have a lousy VW dealer or if you just really hate dealing with any kind of dealer then I think a Tesla looks better. But having a really good VW dealer the Tesla doesn't hold a great advantage. I think these new improvements will put the ID4 on a very solid footing versus model y.

The EPA lists best range at 275 for 2022 & 2023. Also, the VW published ranges are more conservative than some published by other manufacturers.

Lets wait for the new platform with CTP - cell to pack integrated, lower weight and better affiance. And correct batteries based on LFP (LMFP or M3P).
