A former bodyguard gave me similar advice in a very good conversation about gun control and interpersonal crime. His biggest point was that he wanted people to receive proper training with their weapons because people underestimate just how powerful and hard-to-handle they can be if you aren't used to it, and that a lot of people tend to freeze up when they need to defend themselves. His opinion was that people need to come to terms with their capacity for harm-- unintentional and intentional-- whenever they purchase a weapon and to do so with the intent to protect. It becomes a lot easier to pull a trigger when your motivation is focused on love and the instinct to protect, and that also helps limit the damage you can to do somebody because you're grounded in a very material, singular thing.

I had that conversation years ago, and this song especially reminds me of that conversation. Love it. I'm so glad to see a high-quality video of it come out-- I could watch Carmilla dance around forever.

I think this foreshadows Vaggie’s big mistake. She shows mercy out of revenge and thus cannot help the one she loves (like literally Lute pins her down to stop her). When fighting for love you don’t even get the time to think about showing mercy you just finish the job and rush towards what you need to protect.
