17 Danelectro '56 U-2 Reissue

I saw this guitar in a video and I just had to have it. Made in Korea in the 1998-2001 timeframe, the nature of the guitar makes it difficult for me to accurately date. This guitar has a great retro vibe, and being one of the older reissues, it has a more mellow, warm sound to it as well as an overall great feel in the hands. Like the later 59 DC reissue, I bought, it has a very cool throwback kind of charm to it's cheap simplicity and a distinctive tone from it's lipstick pickups and aluminum nut. It also has the concentric knobs that were common on old Dano's to combine volume and tone controls for each pickup in the space for just two knobs.. Danelectro makes a limited quantity of guitars each year now, sometimes reissuing U2's or U3's (3 pickups) in simpler colors with different shaped headstocks or control layouts. This reissue is rather true to the originals.
