1998 Danelectro U2 Reissue Review: More Than You Expected But Also Less And Definitely Different

It took me an absolute eternity but here it is, my review on the 90s reissue of the not-so-mythical Danelectro U2, a review that required more work and effort than every single Danelectro ever combined, which is not meant to be an attack on Danelectro but rather a measure of how inefficient and scatterbrained I am.

I suck.

Fuck I knew I was going to find something wrong after the upload!

Now on to the links and sources for all the lovely pictures I used to try and desperately rescue what would’ve otherwise been the most boring half an hour of the entire internets.

SOURCES - LINKS AND DETAILED SOURCE INFORMATION:

I originally intended to provide full detail of every single piece of material used for this video right here on the description, but the 5000-character limit made that impossible.
So, in order to make this information fully available and credit the creators (even if the material is in the public domain because they created the thing so they should be credited anyway) I’ve linked the following documents in varying level of detail for your own convenience:

*All versions are listed in the same order, which is order of appearance, regardless of the level of detail of the specific document.

**All the material is also credited on the video itself for the entire appearance of said material.

FAIR USE RATIONALE FOR THE MATERIAL TO WHICH I DO NOT HAVE EXPRESS COPYRIGHT LICENSING:

All the material is used in an informative way, either to illustrate what is being described, to further enhance a point being made or to aid in the flow of the presentation to keep it engaging, in order to fulfill its purpose of communicating its contained information without becoming monotonous.
-The material was used in the smallest/briefest way deemed possible and only when considered necessary.
-The use of the copyrighted material does in no way have an effect on the owners’ ability to benefit financially from their original work, or in any other way.
-Credit and links to the source material were provided in as much detail as possible on every single occasion.

LINKS OF INTEREST YOU SHOULD DEFINITELY CHECK OUT, IN ORDER OF APPEARANCE:

So much additional context for the kitschy seafoam green U2 that has been hanging on my bedroom wall for many years! I play it every day, unplugged, but am still as unhip as back in the 90s.

This is honestly my favorite review of the year, love the style, and the 50s bit was great lol

I clicked for the Dano + lipstick pickups, and stayed for Baudrillard

That was not only a thoughtful and intelligent essay on the guitar (seeing it sat next to a Les Paul was mind blowing in a way I never expected...) but it was just plain weird in a way you don't find on the internet anymore. Laudable effort.

If it helps to be angry at people... f*ck you. You're Welcome. I'm definitely going to buy a U2 cheap off Marketplace.

You really ironed out the "art-deco" misconception. 50s is 50s, in it's most severe form it's 'Googie.' Art Deco is an era in style that is very culminative, it's mature, has the past integrated in it's ornamentation, democratizes a sense of class. Art-deco is so modern, yet every modernist concept of the past 60 years can't even comprehend it. People assume modern must be uninspiring, and then they willfully bring forth their horrific assault on public life. Everything from utilitarian housing projects to what we call a 'nice' new house in 2024. Yet what was supposed to be a new standard (deco), like jazz which itself is a genre of "the standards" inevitably is disintegrated and gutted. So whether it's 50's "Googie" or 20's Deco, good things are let go of. We neither get a nice world full of 50's Jetson-y Space Age, or a Classy world of F. Scott. People calling a 1950's guitar deco actually have their heart in the right place curiously enough. Because modern visions have peaks, and progress never is linear in our fallen world, the 'sub par' is the litter we contend with 90% of the time, when contriving the 'forward thinking' concepts for every passing year. We are emotionally incontinent and change up style with misinformed whims, with the attention-span and awareness of a goldfish.
