Comparing a Wix XP Oil Filter to Fram

I've used Wix XP filters for quite a long time. Every time I cut one apart, I'm reminded why spending just a few dollars more on an oil filter means better protection for the engine. On the opposite side there has to be something not so good. In this case, its Fram. We'll cut both apart and I'll show you the differences.

It would of been better to compare the Fram Ultra rather than comparing Wix premium filter vs Fram's budget filter.

Did you really compare a top end wix to a bottom end fram?!?!? Oh my…. Maybe you should look up the efficiency ratings of these two filters. The fram orange can is 95% at 20 microns and the wix xp is 50% at 20 microns. So even though the much more expensive wix is constructed nicely it doesn’t filter nearly as well. Now if you compared the wix xp to the fram ultra you would see that there is no comparison. The ultra is rated at 99% at 20 microns. And is constructed better then the wix xp. Apples to apples…

Excellent comparison. I definitely would prefer the Wix filter, however why does everyone compare the higher end of the brand name filters with the cheapest Fram filter? I would like to see higher end Fram filters inside.

I remember not too long ago, Project Farm did a comparison on oil filters. I believe even the Walmart brand filter was better then the Fram. I also have been using Wix the last year or so.

It’s too bad that’s the old version new one isn’t wire backed anymore and they went away from the coil spring. They are not worth the price anymore

My favorite thing out of all of these comparison videos I see is that it's never an apples to apples comparison.
Now I'm not saying anything negative about the wix xp filter, I feel for a real world daily driver it's the right filter.
But, I'd be remiss if I didn't say, synthetic media vs. Synthetic media Fram ultra is a darn good filter especially with it's price tag. But, down to overall construction, I'll give wix xp the win because on the ultra, the casing and bypass spring remain thin and stamped steel. And the wix will have the edge in flow hands down.

Cant compare a wix xp which is the top of the line wix vs a regular basic fram. The wix xo has to be compared to the Fram ultra.

You should've seperated the filter media, you might've found the glue fram usually uses, which is probably not good even if the cardboard holds up... Wonderful video tho!

I personally like to use wix or the oreilly "microguard" filters which seem identical to the wix filters. I have never cut them apart to verify but just by look, feel, and the weight they seem identical that would make for an interesting video if you got the 2 and cut them open. Most of the parts store brand stuff is actually rebranded products from other companies. I have been told that the generic oreilly brand motor oil is actually rebranded havoline oil.

Long shot but hoping to get input from someone, wix xp 57620xp, k&n hp-4003 are recommended for a 6.7L cummins deisel. Neither these or many other filters for diesel have an anti drain back valve while some cheaper brand filters do. Why is this.

you are not comparing apple to apple when comparing Wix XP top product with Fram's PH middle grade . That is absolutely wrong. You have to compare Wix XP with Fram XG ultra synthetic filter.
