You CAN follow a creator from in-game, and there is even a 10, 000xp reward for your first time.

In the search option, you can select "creator" and see them, and follow from there.

Epic likely moved the library button because people weren't looking up there to interact with the library, and I can certainly say I've clicked on it more since it was moved to where it is now.

Epic is constantly tracking what parts of the UI players are interacting with the most, so they've probably kept it where it is now due to it being used more as it is now.

You can favorite a creator in the game by hitting (on PS5 anyway) triangle over a map. It will give the option to view that creators page, and you will be able to favorite them there.
