PVC Glue Test: What Glue Works Best?

After my rather spectacular failure backing a bow with rawhide, I decided to test what glues might actually perform with PVC. I decided to give PVA woodglue another try, as well as liquid loctite, two loctite spray adhesives and plain ol' hot glue. Since I really love the stuff. Anyway, this is a glue deathmatch, and I hope to see which does the best job sticking on some pleather squares.

I've let each cure for a week now, and we're ready to start pulling them off. Ultimately, a successful glue will allow me to use fabrics to coat, as well as opening up the possibility of using backings as performance enhancers via pre-tensioning.

+Tim Piatek When I first started watching your video, I thought it sounded like a pretty interesting test. I was stunned to see that all you did was make everyone watch you glue one thing to another for 12+ minutes with no results mentioned. You really should name these better to avoid wasting people's time ... like "A whole bunch of gluing that you don't need to watch because you already learned to do it in the first grade". Or something like that.

Cool, I still want to get back to testing this out. I have a different hot glue that seems softer at room temp, and I think won't be as strong - it would be really interesting to see if it is or not, and how other glues perform in contrast.

Tim, have you tried dap weldwood contact cement? We use it to secure thick leather into our brake gloves at the ziplines that I work at. It has a lot of flex, but it holds forever when used leather-on-leather.

Once more: Loctite is NOT a type of glue. Loctite is a manufacturer that makes many types of different products.

Thanks ryanscottmizell, sounds like I've got to try that! Someone on the Google+ forum for PVC Crafting suggested something else called Barge cement. Sounds like I'll need a round two for the reigning champ (conclusion vid is out in a few minutes) to take on some new challengers!

I believe contact and Barge cement are very similar if not the same
