People that have never ridden a bike will never understand the sheer joy and thrill of motorcycles... I've given up trying to explain to people!..those who know... know 👍

Thing is, people are not willing to understand that they are fun (as simple as that). They only see the risk, not the reward, and if they see the reward they proceed to call it "measily", that's where you can see they HAVE NEVER done anything fun in life without risking their health or life, and I usually just say "okay, have a good life, bye." and I'm gone. There's no point in arguing with people who don't and don't want to understand, they just live in their own safe world.

I'm 56, I've been riding since 16, the only accident that I've had was the back wheel nearly slipping on gravel turning a corner in 1988. Bikes are dangerous, but the freedom and fun and the sensation of sheer acceleration on a really quick bike, or driving technically on a demanding stretch of road in the pissing rain are all food for the soul, if you have one. 100% of us will die, live your life!

I talked myself out of getting a motorcycle for well over a decade…..that was easy to do based on what you hear from friends, watch on youtube or read something on the internet. Three months before my 50 birthday (after getting permission from my wife) I got my graduated license here in Canada. Less than a week later I bought my first motorcycle and I’ve enjoyed two riding seasons so far since then. I suffer from depression for the past eight years or so and I can tell you when I am on that bike I never feel depression. I simply can’t be sad or have negative thoughts (I even tried because it felt so weird this have this sense of peace I never experienced before). When I get off the bike reality hits after a few hours but my bike gives me a sense of peace and satisfaction that I never thought possible.

i think its about controlling the euphoria. for some riders its a chilled experience and yet for others its an adrenalin rush. so whatever fuels your high in giving you that passion, especially if its the adrenalin rush variety then know to harness it. you really shouldnt be overtaking 10 cars at a time at high speed or taking bends on a country road wide to get that rush like valentino Rossi. i know riders that overtook at high speed on a country bend and didnt know there was a huge tractor and trailer coming the opposite way round the the bend. yes he was killed.. just keep it under control and youll live out your high, s for many years to come.

I can ride just as dangerously or just as safely as I like - should I choose to expose myself to greater risk, it's my own choice, and under my own control. I'm an experienced rider, I watch the traffic, I am capable of seeing dangerous situations as they develop, and I have the sense to avoid becoming involved. I can minimize my own risk. That doesn't make me invulnerable of course. I could die in a crash tomorrow. Some risk is unavoidable. But as a 70 year old man I am beginning to realize the truth of the quote "to every man upon this Earth, death cometh soon or late". Going out in a bike crash might not be the worst way exit the scene. The biggest thing that slows me down however, is the fear of smashing my body up so badly, that I spend my last few years being wheeled around in a wheelchair, with various tanks and pumps and hoses under the seat pertaining to my bodily functions.

Life is to be lived and taking risks is just part of the fun.

Over 30 years in It's still the only thing that gives me "that" feeling, and the day it doesn't i'll bugger off and do something else. I will say that with age comes improved risk management, talking to a mate of mine after a ride to the coast in summer we joked that these days we don't often go over 80mph, yet in our early 20's we tried not to go below 80mph! The ability to "pick your battles" i.e. minimise situations where you might crash or get nicked comes with age for most bikers although culturally riding like an absolute arsehole is less acceptable these days then it was 25 years ago and is just as likely to get you banned as it is to end you.

The level of danger depends on the mental capabilities of that individual person.

You get one life, live it!
I know how dangerous bikes are, but I won't stop riding because I love it. It's one of the few times when I'm totally unstressed by every day life.

Dropped the bike a few times on road over 30 years of riding....many times off road, par for the course there. No crashes involving anyone other than myself. There is a base level of expected death for any age group and that needs to be compared to the stat for deaths for any activity to see if it's abnormally high on your personal danger scale. I do ride nearly every day.

I get people saying to me motorcycles are death traps and I’m mad riding one, yet these same people are smoking 20 cigarettes a day, now that’s ironic .i wonder how many of those heavy smokers would be dead next week using this same 3 million system.

The thrill is worth the risk. If I die riding, I die doing what I love the most.

I have never been close to offing myself on a bike. It's always other cars or tractors, going about a bend well below my skill level & then a tractor is taking up the whole lane while pulling out a side road. With a trailer. Unless I was going 20-30mph I wouldn't stop in time. I stopped as much as I could & swurved around it. I had a passanger aswell so stopping distance not great. I'm sure I could have stopped without one. I ride cause it's my lifestyle for me. Makes me enjoy life that it's worth the risk. Just wish it was really me putting myself at that risk, it's other road users. I wouldn't say i'm being reckless at any of the points of my close calls. If I was i'd put my hands up. Doing 30-40mph around a perfectly safe bend, i'd say is being a safe rider. So.. my point is even if you're being as safe as possible. Someone can end your life.

I would like to see the statistics on how many motorcycle instructors crash. I bet it's considerably less. Hence ride correctly and you will be a lot safer.

Everything you do involves some risk, from the minute you roll out bed each morning. It's all about the ratio to reward.
