plot armor is where a character makes it through a scenario by breaking the established rules of the universe. For example, Fairy tail where the mechanic set in place is that if you use this magic you will die, and every character ends up completely okay at the end of the arc. That's plot armor. Having dragon balls that have established rules on what they can do, but having a wish granted that breaks those rules that's plot armor. I don't view using the revival system set in place by the author as plot armor.

I will say with SAO, in season 1, there was this resurrection stone. But it only worked on people who died less than minute previously. So the headgear doesn’t instantly kill anyone, it takes a minute. So at the end of season 1, both Kirito and Asuna both die, but the game is shut done less than a minute later, so they live. So while he does have plot armour, it made sense that he lived, at least here.

Interestingly, after the Gear 5 reveal most of Luffy's plot armor has been recontextualized into personal metaphysics. Early dragonball Goku had something similar happen with the reveal of saiyan biology.
