I've almost finished reading Earthlings. Lots of the same themes as Convenience Store Woman but in a different way and tense storyline. Really excited to hear what you think once you've read it and I wasn't aware this was an earlier title. I'm wonder if all her books explore themes of alienation.

I just bought The Other Bennet Sister today. Have read the first few chapters & so far it is indeed delightful!! New Carys Bray? Very exciting.

I was so excited to see you have The Other Bennet Sister. I just got back from visiting Scotland and brought back a copy of this with me as it is not getting published in the US until March. It is delightful and I have been tearing through it, having only about 80 pages to go (in a 650+ pages book!). What sparked my interest in this book was seeing a play last fall by Lauren Gunderson called Miss Bennet, which was a continuation of the story of Mary Bennet. My only gripe with the book is the alarmingly high number of typos and missing words in the text. I actually started keeping a list and so far I have come across nearly forty of them. Do publishers no longer employ copy editors?

British Library Crime Classics! They're such a funny mix, a bit like a box of chocolates with wildly varying fillings. If you haven't read it yet, I highly recommend 'The Poisoned Chocolates Case' by Anthony Berkeley.

Hi Jen, lovely video as always. From among the books on your list, I'm really looking forward to reading You Let Me In by Camilla Bruce, Earthlings by Sayaka Murata and The Island Child by Molly Aitken. I recently finished The Glass Woman by Caroline Lea and absolutely loved it. I don't know if you've read it but I highly recommend it. I'm reading The Lost Ones by Anita Frank right now which is a gothic novel with a similar mood as The Woman in Black.

They all sounds very interesting. I particularly look forward to your review of Carys Bray's new novel . Have a good day

Sanatorium sounds excellent - anything that "challenges preconceptions around chronic pain, the queer body, and disability" is an instant win in my book, and I look forward to getting it when it comes out!

I might be most interested in the final three books in this haul, but You Let Me In sounds decidedly brilliant. I hope you find some new favourites within these books.

Ooh! Thank you, Jen! I just added English Monsters, A Woman in the Polar Night, and You Let Me In to my list! Will probably add the Carys Bray too. Great Haul!

I've seen The Others Bennet Sister all over the place but I wasn't intregued because of the problems of responding to classics but once you review it I'll see if I fancy it.
Women in the Polar Night sounds so Intreguing and I love that cover!
Sanatorium sounds wonderful, as someone with a chronic illness and chronic pain, I love when someone writes about those things who has experience. I just read Hot Milk by Deborah Levy and one of the things that irritated me slightly was the chronically ill character and the discussion of medication in that book.
The cover of Nudi Branch is stunning! It sounds right up my street. And I've had The Island Child on my library reserve list for a month already! Can't wait for it to come .

And oh my You Let Me In sounds so good! I always trust the books you mention will be good.

Can't wait to read "The Other Bennet Sister." "Pride" is such a cornerstone in English Literature, hopefully, "The Other..." one will be an instant classic

I have just gotten started on "The Familiars" by Stacey Halls, which I got for Christmas. It's historical fiction about the Pendle witch trials.

So far this month I read "The beginning of the world in the middle of the middle of the night" (most of the stories I really liked), "the murder of Harriet Monckton" (this is supposed to be based on a true story but many of the facts have been changed - I read it in audio form and I did enjoy it but I think it would be better if it was a bit shorter), "city of ghosts" (a middle grade fantasy book - not a masterpiece but a very enjoyable easy read), 1/3 of "gone girl" (which I expected to love but for some reason I seem to go through it way too slow) and 1/2 of "murder games" (that I have been enjoying so far).Your book is from my bookshelf, the others from my local library... Reading-wise this month started really well for me :) Thank you for sharing! xx
