I've been reading the Bible lately. OT and NT. It blows me away how much of the Bible is intertwined with our western world.

A Farewell To Arms by Ernest Hemingway, really everything Hemingway wrote are easy essential reads. The incredible thing about his war novels is he juxtaposed romance with war making both so much more dramatic.

I would respectfully add The Iliad and the Odyssey, The Aeneid, The Time Machine by H.G. Wells and perhaps the works of R.A. Heinlein.

I absolutely agree and stand by that Metamorphoses, Antigone, Huckleberry Finn, and the Great Gatsby are great reads

No, do not read the NIV version. Read the ESV version, the English standard version. Because, it is the translation that's closest to the original language, but in a way we can understand. There's a reason we Christians call the NIV the non inspired version.

KJV is a little tough, but the ESV and the NIV literally don’t say the same things as the KJV.
