Ford's extending their Tremor off-road vehicles to include the 2021 Ford Ranger Lariat. We're seeing why it should be on the list if you're in the market for a capable pickup truck.

This week we're driving the 2021 Ford Ranger Lariat 4x4 with the optional Tremor off-road package. This mid-size truck comes well equipped for just over $52,000 CAD and packs some off-road capabilities over and above the typical FX4 package found on the Ranger. Our full tour and review goes over everything you need to know if you're in the market for this truck including the 2.3L EcoBoost turbo specifications, the optional extras, and the overall functionality of the TREMOR off-road package. We discuss how this compares to the GMC Canyon AT4 we drove last year.

We go over the interior layout of this truck along with the Sync 3 infotainment system, B&O audio system, heated front seats, Miko Suede & leather upholstery, and the overall interior space on this truck compared to the competition.

We then take the 2021 Ford Ranger Tremor on a real-world road test to talk about the ride, drive, and handling along with the overall performance of this truck. Our road test talks about our fuel economy test results and how they compare to the GMC Canyon AT4 we drove, along with our overall impressions of this truck.

Very true. Buyers shouldn't be worried abt how others will judge them for picking a mid size over full size truck. Cars have grown so much in size that mid size is more appealing to our urban lifestyle now.

Great video that helped me decide on my next truck. I purchased that exact same model (cactus grey looks way better in person than on video) and after 2 weeks of driving it these are my impressions.

Power - spirited and quick, especially in Sport mode. Put your foot down and it goes.

Drivability - smooth and easy to control.

Interior - Quiet, plush and comfortable. Leather seats are gorgeous and I love the built in butt warmers. Does not feel dated to me at all as some reviews claim. B&O 8 speaker sound system is clear and very loud.

Exterior - sleek and stylish. I especially like the front end and even more happy with it after seeing the abomination that is the 22 Tundra. Tremor accents subtle yet distinctive, though I would like to have seen 4x4 as part of the branding.

Technology - Sync 3.4 is quick, clean and easy to use. Android Auto is a big plus. The key FOB is very cool with remote start, auto unlock doors and if you exit the vehicle while it's running it sounds two short horn beeps and locks the doors. Has internal modem for a 4g wifi hotspot. Digital readouts are colorful, well laid out and customizable. Also everything can be controlled from the steering wheel.

Offroad - extremely capable. Fox shocks and the heavy duty suspension really make off road driving a lot less of a strain on your spine.

Payload/towing - best in class

These are things that I think could be improved upon.
1. Larger fuel tank
2. Functioning gear selector on center console.
3. Tailgate damper
4. Ford should have done a better job on the exterior branding. No 4x4 logo nor Ecoboost or Turbo.

All in all I am very happy with the truck. It's cozier and much easier to maneuver around the city than my previous full-sized trucks. Turns on a dime and has more than enough off-road capability for me.

Just my 2 cents

Someone said these look like a Ford Taurus and now I can’t unsee that 😅

However at 6’2 I want something higher off the ground than my trusty civic and the ranger is on my list. It’s still pretty small compared to most trucks and I don’t want something big.

That is a really sexy truck. Reminds me of the looks of that Toyota in back to future that Biff was cleaning for Marty. The other thing is how after several years of turbos, this 2.3 liter turbo has become normalized. There was a time I would really hate on turbos, but I really don't mind it now. That instrument gauge is really dated though I tend to agree they need to refresh. I think this is a stop gap measure for Ford when they realized they need to get back in this segment.

I really hope you get a chance to test new Frontier, it really looks good inside and out.

I have one on order. It will replace my 2017 Toyota TRD Pro so hoping I like it as much as the TRD. Time will tell. Taking 4-5 months to get once ordered, bummer.

I've had a 2021 XLT Tremor for about 3 weeks now. In my opinion, I'd say the Tremor is a jack of all trades. It's a capable off roader for sure, but it's also comfortable off road as well. The bed a bit small, but it has a decent payload. I don't think of it as an off roader exclusively, it's more like a good multi tool, capable enough in anyway you need it to be.

The Tremor package is good value for the added features, (the full sized spare tire and wheel is likely worth $1000 lol), but $52 000 total is outrageous.

How long of a test loop do you use for your fuel mileage test?

Ford needs a "quality package" that makes its cars last as long as a Toyota
