I'll be in my early 40's this year. Year before last, my mother, who suffers from it, was diagnosed and learned that hers is an inherited genetic disorder. I have it too, but it's nowhere near as bad as her case, and my grandmother, my mom's mother, also had it.

I had tremors since 2003 still there is no way to fix it but learned to live with it.

I've had intention tremor in my right hand for several years now. It got a bit better when my Rexulti dose was decreased, but that made my depression worse. In the end I decided it was easier to live with the tremors than the depression.

I am 64 years old and today( Sunday August 11, 2024) I noticed as I was drinking from a carton of water 💦, my left hand was trembling. It wasn’t bad. But I did notice it and I said to myself that’s a bit strange. I also saw that extreme weather can bring this on. It wasn’t especially hot 🥵 today. I live in the Boston suburbs. My dad battled Parkinson’s disease for over 40 years. They say, you don’t inherit it. Has anyone else here experienced this and did it get better ❤️‍🩹 or worse.
Thanks 🙏

The video was great, BTW I really admire your dressing Doc. I aspire to have such dressing as I get more experienced in my medical field

I think I can finally name my condition, that has been passed down from my grandfather as far as I can say. Mine is still mild, but my father's got worse at 70 or so. Thanks

I've had essential tremor in my right hand for 20+ years. Hasn't really had any negative impact on my life so far.

Part of my neurologist's diagnosis of my essential tremor was that she asked me to walk heel-to-toe in a straight line. I've been doing this every so often since I was a kid. I now can't go three such steps without falling sideways. I had no idea.

Try it.

There is an ultrasound procedure that can stop the tremors. We saw a segment on 60 minutes showing the non invasive procedure and the result was AMAZING. My husband has ET. But we are having a hell of a time tying to get a referral from his neurologist to a neurosurgeon who does the procedure near us AND that his medical group will cover. He has had TWO referrals now that have gone nowhere because the locations of the nerosugeons he's been referred to are both out of the network. It's so FRUSTRATING!!!!

Yep, I too have E.T. I guess what frustrates me the most is I can no longer write. I suppose eventually there will be some kind of cure (or control) for it, but at 78 I'll probably never see it.

I have ET. It became noticeable when I was about 60 and it seems to be getting worse the older I get.

Was fine till I turned 60. Now my head & upper body shake. It comes on all a sudden, apropos of nothing. But I'm really thin, so maybe it's just my heart pounding more noticeably. Thanks for the info.

One question should they check for nerve damage first and I went to a neurologist and from what I got they have no idea how to diagnose or treat it and can it be caused by chemical at a workplace

My left hand started several years before the right my dominant hand. Unfortunately I am not a candidate for the ultrasound surgery - my skull is too thin. Have now completed 3 series of botox injections in my arms and also jaw muscles for chin tremors. Handwriting huge improvement as well as toothbrushing. Chin tremors improved so easier to swallow when drinking from a glass. Down side is hand weakness - very distressing especially in hand tasks in kitchen. This last session included injections at the wrists for the weakness. So a total of 12 injections. In my case injections last about 2 months out of the 3 intended. It is uplifting the improvement. It’s not 100% but it’s encouraging. My neurologist is at a medical college so I agreed twice for fellow interns to give the injections. Well the last intern experience was painful and left 1 arm black and blue. Totally unexpected. So the doctor performed only 1 of 3 sessions. Next time I won’t agree to an intern.

I have been experiencing these and they have gotten progressively worse over the past 4 years. I take full responsibility for my actions but heed my warning. I am a recovering alcoholic about 2 weeks sober. I thought my tremors would improve after the first week. They have not. My doctor said I have essential tremors. Might have them for the rest of my life I might not. Mine are so bad, I cannot function like this. It feels like climbing a mountain just to go down stairs and haphazardly throw food together that I can eat without making a mess. I am a servant to my body instead of the other way around. 😢 anyone got any advice besides the meds they use? I take breaks for a few seconds to shake it off, but most of the time they just come and go when they want. Sometimes I have to go lay down and shut my eyes because all the stimulation can make my neck tremor, my eyes tremor (trying to read), or vocal cords tremor. This hinders me from doing any type of work as I have seizures and can’t drive. Typing is impossible on laptops. I can’t use the mouse effectively. Hell I can barely brush my hair and teeth

Anyone know what causes eye twitching ONLY when you close your eyes? I don’t notice any twitching when they are open.
I have what I call a resting head tremor (tremor when sitting or standing still and the tremor turns into making me restless when lying down like it is still there but internal). I have been diagnosed as ET at age 50; it was spontaneous and technically started at age 46 after a low dose of fluoxetine for less than 2 weeks. I just don’t understand the eye twitching when I close my eyes. My eyes don’t seem to twitch when they are open. I really think the eye twitching and head tremor are somehow connected. Seems as if they never happen at the same time. Either my eyes are twitching or my head is shaking. I move almost anything fast enough (arms, legs, head, etc.) and the tremor seems to disappear and so does the eye twitching. I have been researching this and coming up empty…one neurologist even accused me of lying to him about the eye twitching (I got a second opinion)..same diagnosis. Thanks in advance for any replies!
