Entomologist here, the reason that works is actually pretty interesting! The wasp wasn't dead. Insects like wasps breathe thru small tubes in their exoskeleton. Those tubes are filled with water, causing it to lose much of its oxygen and reach a state of homeostasis. It's still alive because even though those tubes are full of water, the insect is still using what little oxygen it has left within its body to survive. The salt causes a sort of diffusion, much like that of cells, and separates the water from the wasp's body. The wasp is now basically just waking up and slowly gaining its ability to fully breathe back. If anyone was curious, lol
