Tottenham started their Champions League campaign with a win over Marseille but there was carnage in north London with fans clashing with riot police on Wednesday night.
Fights broke out at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium between riot police and Marseille fans amid flares being thrown at the supporters and clashes with stewards in the stands.
The night of chaos came on Wednesday night in north London as Tottenham took on Marseille in the Champions League. Richarlison's second-half brace gave Spurs all three points and a winning start to their European campaign.
However, there were ugly scenes in the stands where the away fans were situated with clashes between both sets of supporters. A thin line of stewards was all that prevented all-out violence as missiles were thrown between both sides.
As a number of hooligans looked to fight with stewards, riot police arrived to push back the away fans. A flare was thrown into the home end that forced Tottenham's supporters back as the missile was extinguished.
Marseille fans also tore down a Pride flag that was hanging up on the corner of the ground with many supporters donning masks and scarfs wrapped around faces.
Speaking on talkSPORT commentary, Sam Matterface said: “Unseemly scenes. There’s a hoard of stewards and riot police getting involved now as bottles are thrown from either side of the divide.
“That is absolutely a disgraceful way to end the match… police are trying to form a line between the two sets of fans to stop missiles being thrown between the two sets of supporters."
