Astro A50 Gen 4's better than the Gen 1's?

It has been 10 years since I upgraded my gaming headsets. I originally had the Astro A50 Gen 1, now I got myself the Gen 4.

This will be my first reaction of using the headsets, and will compare the difference of the two headsets, a decade apart!

I’ve had my gen 1s for ten years as well! They finally broke(wear and tear of my kids over the years) and now I’m looking at gen 4s. Great video!

I've had an A50 gen 1 for over 10 year now that they still work great. I have had zero issues with them. However they do not work with xbox one or series X controllers when I want to use the mic (the cable isn't the correct size for the "new" xbox controllers). I want to upgrade to the Gen 4 but I have read a ton of issues. From disconnecting constantly, to the base not communicating to the console. I wanted to ask if now, after a year of using them, if you have had any issues like these because $300 is a lot for a headset and I want to be certain the product is worth it.

I've had my Gen 1s since they came out 10 years ago as well :) They're a great headset, and they were my only headset for all of these years. Looking for a new upgrade, it seems like most headsets have a ton of features, but lack core features like sound quality, or comfort. Made a decision to upgrade to the gen 4 a50s! Not the best headset, lacking features like customization, Bluetooth connectivity, mics aren't as good as other headsets, etc. But the A50s are so comfy, the base station is super usable for streaming and gaming, and they are extremely comfortable!

My personal experience with Astro A50s. I've Owned a Gen 1 for the past 8 years. they have worked amazing and are just just starting to go.
Comparatively the Gen 1 to the Gen 4. The Gen 4 faces the same issues as the 3, they lowered the material quality and sound quality from Gen 1-2 to 3-4
I had issues where they did not sound as good as my gen 1s the mic quality was much worse, the dual channels didn't work as well and were very crackly overall I really wasn't impressed upgrading from Gen 1 to 4 I ended up returning them and getting refunded after finding out that that's just how they were. I'll gladly buy a new Gen 1 or 2 off of Ebay or something but I definitely do not recommend the new Gen 3 and 4

I keep hearing that the Gen 1/2s sound and build quality was much better than the Gen 3/4s - is this actually true? Are people making sure to use optical on these headphones? (if you are using USB and not optical your sound quality is worse - I am asking about those who have used both on optical)

I have the first a50 still. Almost 10 years old now but still works, falling apart tho as the leather type material in the ear cup is now disintegrating and falling apart. I got it before I had kids and now I have 2 I don't think I'd get another one with risk of kids getting hold of it. They have got hold of my old one but it's still working, just doesn't look the part anymore, still sounds amazing tho.

I have the astro a50 gen 4, and I gotta mess around with headset to actually charge to transmitter, my ONLY problem is how do I connect it to my ps3, can I use gen 1 transmitter to gen 4 headset or any ideas

Thanks for posting! I’ve had my gen 1 a50s for seven years now. They’re still going strong and there’s nothing wrong with them, however I’ve still been considering upgrading them. Are the gen 4s worth the upgrade? What are the biggest differences you’ve come across so far, if any while using them?

How is the sound volume on the new model. I upgraded to the astros a40 tr gen 4 and max volume is way lower then the gen 1 Astros A50.

Does anyone have problems with their gen 1 not showing up in pc anymore (still work) or on the newer xbox one it doesn't work at all? Wondering if anyone did anything to fix them? Can't update firmware if pc won't recognize it...

The gen 1s work like a champ. I use them wired on PC. Definitely got my money’s worth. Those gen 4 are sick. Is the sound quality noticeably better? The gen 1s still sound great to me. I did a firmware update.
