I love this episode because it shows how they’re both wrong.

Jerry blames Rick for breaking them up, ignoring that his marriage has been on the rocks for awhile and if nothing changed a divorce was inevitable.

Rick blames Jerry for supposedly guilt tripping Beth into marrying him, but ignores that it might be what she actually wanted and, guilt or no, she made a choice to stay.


Neither of them are actually considering what BETH thinks and feels, just treating her like a prop they need to win the approval of in order to be king of the Smith family.

Edit: im not reffering to the clone beths, im referring to, in the new season when we find out that rick-C137 was a rick that had his family killed instead of leaving to pursue his tech further, and he goes to live with a different family. But what i was saying is when rick says “she was ricks daughter” is the first time we get a hint to this conclusion.

I do enjoy that as much as Rick dislikes Jerry, he knows that Jerry is the one that makes Beth happy, so he goes out of his way to make sure they find each other

Rick literally proved Jerry right immediately after being called self righteous

It's funny to look back on this scene now with the new context from season 5. Rick is laying into Jerry for "taking Beth's options" when we now know it was actually him that did that. The collective of his alternate selves that go into various dimensions and one way or another force Beth and Jerry together for Morty to be born; and Rick knows this as he's calling out Jerry for something he knows he had no real part in.
