My paternal grandparents had two beds, as did my parents. Both of my sisters in law thought that was stupid.
Brother #1 often ends up in the sofa because he sleeps better there than in the same bed as his wife.
Sister in law #2 understood the advantages as soon as she started sharing a bed with bro#2. "He takes up the whole bed! ALL of it!" Yep...

My husband and I have slept in separate beds, in different rooms, for going on 3 decades.
He likes the room to be pitch black with either a fan, or sleep sounds on. He has also always needed more sleep than I do (he likes 8 - 10, while I'm good with 5 - 7), so he goes to bed probably 2-3 hours before I do. I normally stay up later, I don't like sleeping in a dark room, I like sleeping with the TV on, or my phone on with YouTube videos with the volume on low, and because we have animals including dogs, cats, and horses, if our ranch dogs start barking, I wake up, get up, check stuff outside to make sure everyone's OK, and then I have no problem going right back to sleep.
So I guess what matters is what works for the partners.

You don’t need to be unconscious together.

Why is this a bad thing?
Why do we care?
Let people love how they can.

Don't forget the 50's and 60's couples had separate beds. Royalty and wealthy people over the centuries have done it. This is not new.

If you cant sleep in the same bed the marriage is over before it started. If you cant sleep in the same bed then they arent the right partner to spend you life with.
