As a kid you wonder why Ian jumped out even tho Dr. Alan seemed like he had successfully distracted the Rex. In his mind, he would rather sacrifice himself as a decoy rather than take a chance on Dr. Alan’s plan not working out. This is further proven by him yelling “get the kids!” As he runs away.

What I wouldn't give to sit in a theater back in 1993 and see people's reaction to this sequence. The tension, the CGI, the animatronics... and especially the sound design. Imagine hearing that iconic roar for the very first time.
