Later edit: this video needs a remake. As time went on, more information came to my attention and I realized that this video gave a somewhat skewed perspective. Many times, European nations will claim a piece of land without properly controlling or inhabiting it. Many times they just drew borders on a map and respected each other's claims, but the indigenous groups had not actually been subdued. For instance, the French claimed all of Louisiana, but outside of some forts on Mississippi's banks and New Orleans, they hardly had any control over it. This map I made does not accurately represent this discrepancy between the on-the-ground reality and claims, even though I tried. Check my United States video if you want to better understand what I mean.

Because of that and other inaccuracies, this video will be getting a more accurate remake in the future. This will be later this year or in 2024. The update will better portray claims and occupation and will include more examples of native resistance to colonialism. Until then, watch this video with a grain of salt, knowing that it gave a rather Eurocentric view. Think of this video as "incomplete" rather than outright wrong.

I am kind of curious about how you decided to classify "colonialist nations, " though. For instance, why does Japan only appear in 1919 when it acquired its first colony, Taiwan, in 1895? Why isn't Russia considered a colonial power during its conquest of Siberia? I also feel like the USA should still be colored in the present day due to its possession of territories like Guam and Puerto Rico.

As a Turk, I wanted the Ottoman Empire to do colonialism in the 1500-1600's. Imagine, if Kılıç Ali Pasha or Barbaros Hayreddin Pasha (They were Kaptan-ı Derya, "Great Captain Admiral of the Seas") had crossed the Atlantic Ocean and colonized the Aztecs or Incas, perhaps today we would have a Ottoman Commonwealth and a Republic which has Nation-State structure like Türkiye.

Maybe, our explorers would preach İslam to Aztecs or İncas. Probably, Emperor Moctezuma would be a Muslim and he would named "Mustapha". Because, at least as far as I guess, we would not want their culture to be lost due to the Ottoman Empire's Tolerance Policy, it called "İstimalet", and they would live with both their own culture and ours, as we did with the Bogomil Bosnians.
