IN the 80's you would hear them all the time. Some law outlawed it. I used to love it. I was a young kid and would run outside and look up every time I heard one.

For those of you wondering about the newscaster and his voice, I think he has spasmodic dysphonia. It is a neurological disorder that causes involuntary spasms in the muscles of the larynx. This causes the vocal cords to spasm, which affects the voice. He probably had been a newscaster for years BEFORE the condition developed. There is no reason for him to stop working.
Diane Rehm is probably the most famous journalist who had the condition. She had a very popular program on NPR for a very long time despite having the condition.
By the way, many people with spasmodic dysphonia are afraid to speak because of people making fun of them.

That actually sounds really cool I would not mind that at all even if its every day. And you'd only hear on the planes flight path, presumably. It's a similar thing to being on the flight path to an airport.
