From his 1972 album "Hobo's Lullaby". Song was written by Steve Goodman. Goodman asked Guthrie to listen to his song. Guthrie agreed if Goodman would buy him a beer. The rest is history...

Best train song ever written. Long live Steve Goodman.

I think this is one of Arlo's best songs.
Steve Goodman wrote it and Arlo has commented that he wish he had written it.
Beautifully performed and nice pics.
Song sticks in my head.
I like to see and hear the video several times.
Makes me feel better when I am frustrated.

das Lied muss man mögen, ist zeitlos, kann man immer hören und das große Land USA möchte man bereisen, Land und Leute kennenlernen, ein Traum ❤ 👍

In 2:40 the train is hauled bay a "Patriot" class locomotive from the London Midland & Scottish Railway, (LMS) from Great Britain (nothing to do with USA's City of New Orleans) and in 4:20 de loco it will probably be a german decapod.

Been there, done that. Great but, why the image of a British LMS train at 2mins 34secs? 😳

Anyone know what book the drawings are from? Looks like they are made just for the song, especially the club car.

At 0:46 : this is CERTAINLY NOT the "City of New Orleans"! I was very surprised when I saw these two locos : the are "Mikado" (2-8-2) locomotives used in China to pull heavy freight trains (and sometimes passengers too) from Sandaoling and other coal collieries.

This train has the disappearing railroad blues.
